What would happen to the shellac if you kept the stock oiled. I keep my 1957 Savage stock well oiled so that it does not dry out.
I use double boiled linseed oil .
What about Lin Speed Oil?
So I am sitting here with my steamer and my blow dryer. Not too much crap to clean off. I probly didn't need to take it all apart but that's the fun of it.
Has to be boiled or double boiled . There is a reason . I can't off the top of my head remember what it was but I'm sure some wood nutz will remind us .
Boiled linseed oil dries faster. Just remember that rags with linseed oil on it can spontaneously combust. Put the rags in a sealed can or soak them with water.
Steamer & Blow dryer ?
I don't recall any of those methods in my Soviet small arms maintenance manuals
LOL
I was finally able to pick up the new member of the family.
It's a 1954 Tula from the IZH batch
The stock and handguard are not laminated.
I have not seen any electro-pencilled marks on any of the metal parts so far.
The stock has 2 crossed out serial numbers, so it is on its third rifle.
Overall I like the look of it quite a bit.
Hey, I got gyp'd - I didn't get the oil bottle & pouch with either of my rifles
