Russian SKS45 long thread.

I got one of those e-mails too and checked my tracking number with Canada Post, which gave me this.

According to it, I should receive the package Friday, but they told me today none had shipped yet as they were in limbo awaiting registration.

I don't know what to believe right now. When the girl talked to me on the phone last week, she said it could be up to 3 1/2 weeks before I received my order.

Friday would be nice though!

Anybody seeing an update to their tracking page? Mine remains unchanged since Tuesday. Damn I'm getting anxious:)

Not unusual for Canada Post to do no tracking after the shipment leaves the shipping depot until it reaches your post office.

My tracking info hasn't changed since the shipment was delivered to the Post Office in Winnipeg. I would not be surprised that the next tracking info will be that the shipment has arrived at my central depot and is out for delivery (Friday morning).:ar15:

Did I get an earfull

Grouse Man:

About that 1 stamped on the front sight:

I was told that the rifles were graded for accuracy from 1 being the best to 3 meeting the minimum requirement. I have no idea if that is correct or not, just what I was told...

I posted that exact reply on an American SKS website and did I hear about it. I was told that the 1 thing is a myth or not substantiated. Apparently a gun "urban myth". They did say that it may be fact, but it had been hashed out many times in numerous posts with the end result being the 1 is not a accuracy marking. Now having said that, mine has a I on the front sight. After looking at it with a magnifying glass and comparing to a Russian stamped 1 in serial numbers etc. It does not appear to be a 1, but a single verticle line stamped in for whatever reason. Having said that, in my mind I am going to go the 1 route for the heck of it and believe I have an accurate SKS...laughs...but I think I will pass on any debate about it and leave it to the experts to determine...

I just got home and checked, and it hasn't changed here either.

Somehow, I suspect it will be more like next week before my shipment arrives.

There is no documentary evidence to prove that the symbols punched mean anything else than the quality control proof mark.
Take any part of any soviet/russian made gun and you will find at least one punched/scribed digit/letter/other symbol.
Urban legend in my opinion.

Here's a detail of mine:

Crap. Mine has a '1'. I thought for sure that I'd be shooting the wings off of flies. :(

Seeing how the numbers only seem to go up to 3,and 1 is the most reported, could the number be away of marking what shift built it? That is of course figuring they were running three shifts................

Do you think everyone who wants an SKS now has one, and that this thread has lost its spark? A few posts ago, I posted about another 20 rifles that were in Bashaw, AB. A few weeks back, there would have been a flurry of activity and they would have been gone in a day.

Thoughts?

If they were bright bolt ones from IZH there would be a rush on them. There are plenty of the black bolted-frankensteined mag ones from Bell still available from many sources. Those that wanted shooters mainly have them,it's the collectible ones everyone is now looking for. And the Bell ones are far from being collectible

Bashaw's are shooters, Most of us have our shooters. Now looking for the collectables is more of a hunt. I too am waiting for my extra ordinary hand picked unissued from Moving Target.
You can justify a bargain price for a shooter, but not the price of a hand picked for a shooter. There are a few more places that I have my name in line, that I am waiting to see what they get in. If it is an over priced Bell with black bolt, they can keep them. Rarity is where it is at.

the lowest i paid is from SIR , bell for $200 , $225 shipped .

the highest would be from moving target , unissued IZH for $285 , dont know shipping charges yet.

i wont pay more than $285 .

I am going to look at the one for $339.95 this weekend, it would have to sparkle for any-one to pay that much or be desperate. Again over the phone is sometimes different then in person. Who knows, I may get a better deal in person. I will post an update after I check them out.

From what I've read up to now, I probably paid too much for my SIR-sourced one :)

It's now in Montreal, should be in Ottawa on Monday...

Ok yes, I already have the one Frontier sent me (and quite happy with it), but...

Can't wait... To get what the SIR sales person told me... a 1945 SKS... Mwahahaha!!!

Sorry, can't get over it.

Lou

Canada Post tracking system has mine arriving in Montreal at 16:41 or so this afternoon. I guess I will get it on Monday. So much for a 3 day guaranteed delivery.

I'm still puzzled about the finish of the bolt carrier on the ones from SIR. I hear from some people that they are painted black and from other sources, bare metal. Does this mean that SIR has more than one version?

If mine is not a collectible, it will be up for sale as I have more than I need for shooters. Still an excellent price for a gun with such a history.

PS. I'm starting to focus on the CZ 858 and can't wait to get one - on back order.

Okay. I'm confused. I just got a delivery notice from Cabela's Canada for UPS?

And you guys are getting notice from Canada Post... why ship some UPS and some Canada Post (and for some reason I had it in my head that they had to be shipped by CP)?

Weird. I'm a little bitter because I HATE UPS, and now I have to wait 'til monday to pick up.
