S&W M&P 15-22 report

For smith and wesson products there are two things you can do.

One: take it back to the place you bought it and they will send it to the importer and he will export it back for smith and wesson to look at. The other option is the send it either to ontario or Brentwood Bay, which is vancouver island. they both have Smith and Wesson Armorers. The one located on the island is called MD Charlton - they are police supplies. Murry is his name I believe - they are good guys.

Fired 700 Rnds

I fired my M&P 15-22 today and took the wife with me. She hates guns. She loved firing this 22lr. Out of 700 rnds, I had 4 FTF and 1 FTE. Overall performance has been awesome and ease and breeze to shoot even for her.

People thought it was an AR-15. Even the range owner stopped the his and hellos and asked what the hell was that. I loved the 700 rnds fired. I fired the bulk ammo from walmart. 29 bux for 525 rnds.

I fired it completely stock with no upgrades, even the stock sights. I will fire off another 5oo or so tomorrow. I did not have the ejector problems as stated in the smith and wesson forums. Sometimes it appears its too early to say. Hope to get over 2000 rnds done over the week and see how it goes.

Only thing, hated was loading the mags. I do have three and might get 3 more. I fired 5 mags rapid fire no issues.

Took the rifle out again today, buit this time with a scope. With Cheapie Federal ammo, I was able to get all 25 rounds into a 1.5" group at 35 yards. Sure, that's not stunning...for a 223! All I am interested in is "minute of pop can" accuracy.

So far, about 2400 rounds with not blown extractors (...knock on wood...) and a minimal amount of FTF's.

Overall, I am still very pleased. My only gripe is with cleaning. The bore and bolt are no issue, but the breach face is tough to get at, and I don't think that the handguard comes off (..not without some special tool...) so cleaning tha barrel under the handguard is tough.

Thanks

Ty

i fired about 400 rounds today, i had a mix of cheapo federal ammo and cci blazers. i had some FTF and FTEs...i'd say about 8 or 10 of them (combined). not sure, but the cci blazers had more of a problem at first. i believe its the magazine. i'm going to give it a good clean before i go out to the range again.

a guy at the range said i should use gun oil on the ejector and rails, so its a 'smoother' eject.

The one problem seems to be blown extractors. Mine did it I am waiting for it to be fixed

hillbilly what did you do when it blew? where did you send it i mean, and what process did you have to go through? because mine just blew not to mention my hearing as well.. 80 rounds through 2 FTF's serial # DTM5**

My rifle had a rapid fire at 100 rounds. 13 FTF's and at around 250 rounds it blew the extractor claw - this is what I was told it was called - and mad a bit of a mess of this round. This rifle will be great when the problems are fixed. I still have hope for it yet.

Please be safe when test firing your new Smith and Wesson MP 15 .22lr

should have taken your advice for being safe, wasnt wearing hearing protection when it blew out on me and i swear im deaf in my right ear.. happened about 20 minutes ago, what did you do when you lost your extractor? did you have to send it back to S&W or did you take it to a local shop or what? thanks

Bought my 15-22 last Saturday and just got out today and tested it. I put 600 rounds through it and the only issue was 4 FTE with 100 rounds of Remington, I then put 500 Winchester super X 40gr without an issue. I was cautious and hoped I wasn't going to get any exractor problems and hope I won't in the future. Overall very impressed with this gun, a good investment.

Next time out I'm going to pick up some of the cheapie Federaland try it out.

anyone have an idea on what exactly is happening here? is it ammo related or design flaw? anyway to avoid this

It would seem that it is a design flaw. If it was an ammo issue would there not be case failures causing issues. If the cases are intact upon ejection the case is containing the ignition. Therefore no external detonation causing damage.

Ammo change might help with FTEs & FTFs but it should make no difference to the incidence of mechanical failures unless the cartridges are so overpowered to cause catastrophic failures. If the FA is designed for Hi Vel 22LR ammo any brand should be safe to fire.

It would seem that it is a design flaw.

Sure it's.
The same thing was going on South of the border some time ago.
Now, after servicing, they are sending "the upgraded version of the rifle to the owners" after many people experienced exactly the same problem.
It's a wise thing to wait a year or two, before S&W will fix the problem with the rifle for good.

i have one on the way. i hope im getting the "upgraded" version. is there a way to tell at all? any marking or tell tale sign on the rifle/parts?
