S&W M&P Compact

Seriously? Another month potentially? So it could be March until I get a proper barrel for the gun I received in December? And a repaired one at that. This sucks.

Sounds like they are going to open up the barrel from 9mm to .40 and then recoat it. Pretty lame, they should have immediately sent out a .40 replacement barrel to Questar and evaluated the mod/repair/scrap on the barrel that's getting returned. Bottom line is how do you re-machine the rifling on a 9mm barrel to a .40? I'd be pissed.

I am sorry but how can they repair a 9mm barrel..? I thought you ordered a 40?
The repairs were referring to the .40 barrels that were chambered in 9mm, which I guess they can still make a .40 out of them.

I'm somewhat pissed off that they are modifying the barrels they screwed up on in the first place, and even more pissed that we are being forced to wait for this whole process to take place.

I've emailed Storm Lake back to confirm if were getting new barrels or "repaired" ones. Either way I'm not impressed with any of this. The entire process has been ridiculous. I would hope that if they are repaired Questar would step up and say something to Storm Lake. Depending on how this ends up, either company may not see business from me again. A shame really... I've spent a lot of money with Questar but there's always Irunguns.

I agree. Had there been nothing wrong with the barrels, it actually would have been a great transaction considering I had my .40c less than a month after I ordered it. But now I feel like Questar is just going along with whatever Storm Lake is saying and not asking questions or challenging it. I've received more info from Storm Lake directly than Questar. Not a great experience.

Ok so I just received a reply back from Storm Lake, and quite a quick response I may add.

"My apologies for the last email. You will be receiving the correct barrel in return. The barrel you will receive back is the 40S&W.

Well isn't that very vague!! No mention if it's new or now...
I originally wrote "I just wanted to confirm... so I will not be getting a completely new barrel but a "repaired" one?"

Ok, that's weird. The last email mentioned the repair specifically and a delay of 2-4 weeks? Maybe they changed their mind and are just going to ship out replacements ASAP?

A little late to this thread- but this is mine (M&Pc 9mm) that I imported back in June 2012

The barrel is a Storm Lake 4.2" (109mm) threaded barrel - stainless

Since i've had it imported i've added the Apex DCAEK and RAM, as well as a set of Trijicon HD night sights

Just got a detailed update from Questar and was told I could share it here:

Due to several issues, which I am more than happy to inform you about, Storm Lake did not receive the barrels until Thursday, Jan 31. We shipped the barrels back to Storm Lake the day they all arrived back in our office, as we are required to send them all back at once. Canada Post had misplaced barrels and some only arrived after that was resolved. US Customs then held the barrels for over a week.

We met with the owner of Storm Lake at the SHOT Show and this situation was discussed. We were assured by him that the situation would be resolved “as quickly as possible”. Storm Lake, like all US Vendors in our industry simply does not have “replacements” on the shelf, so they can’t just grab another one and ship it out. Storm Lake is making barrels to order, like everyone else and just doesn’t have a surplus of most barrels, so unfortunately for us, and mainly our customers, we have to wait until the matter is resolved, as quickly as possible. We in fact only received an email late yesterday informing us what Storm Lake was going to do, so therefore I could not give you a better answer then what they in fact had told me. “we are working to get the issue resolved as quickly as possible.” While Storm Lake has a great reputation, and their customer service is excellent, they can’t send to us what they don’t have and they are sorry for their mistake.

Now, for Storm Lakes resolution. Last night Storm Lake informed us that they will be starting the process to fix these barrels immediately. Storm Lake sent us an order of “X” amount of .40S&W and “X” amount of 9MM. The “x” amounts of .40 barrels were accidently engraved 9mm, and the “x” amount of the 9mm barrels were engraved .40. The barrels fit, will shoot and are in perfect condition except for the improper engraving which of course made us ship you a 9mm barrel without knowing. We obviously won’t accept barrels not being engraved properly, but your 9mm barrel you received would shoot in the 9mm version without problem. We shipped back all the barrels, Storm Lake is going to remove the engraving, re black the barrels, engrave them with the correct markings, and ship them back to us. This is faster than waiting for them to make a run of the barrels and should take at least 4 weeks.

Maybe Questar should reconsider and go with a Lone Wolf barrel. This is becoming a royal pain in the ass for everyone who is waiting for the fix.

Well this has been an interesting read.

I ordered a 9 and am just waiting for it. Had no idea this had all been transpiring.

Oh well, it is what it is.

Anyone know if I can get the barrel threaded and slap on a thread protector? So much better looking that way.

Wonder if Questar will do it for me.

Storm Lake makes the threaded barrels for the M&P compact, and you can order SL barrels through Questar.

I already ordered the M&P. Guess I'm stuck with the non-threaded barrel unless I pay Questar the difference for a threaded one.
