Sad news about my shotgun

There is a UPS store across the border from me. I have stuff shipped there and they store it until I get there. It’s something like $5 / week. Maybe look into that when it opens up this summer.

Cool, if any of those things are export-regulated firearms parts, then you are breaking US Federal Law by bringing them into Canada. Don't get caught.

Your gunsmith looks at the value and return of making the part. Determined it's not worth his time. As for US post boxes, they won't rent to you. Border towns with a mailing service will.

Just took me by surprise that "gunsmiths" can't fab a part and that you cannot access parts in this country for a fairly common shotgun.
The fact is that some 'gunsmiths' aren't really gunmiths at all, just parts swappers. A true gunsmith is also part machinist, welder, woodworker and chemist. Good ones are highly trained professionals.

Cocking arms can be made. I made one from an old one. Piece of steel plate was cut close with a cutting wheel on a grinder. Bench top belt sander finished it to proper size with hand files near the end. I have a 80 year old Belgium double 16 that the cocking arm broke. Can’t find parts so I decided to make it. My favourite double I had to have working. A gun smith with machinist knowledge or a machinist should be able to copy the part.
Have you tried contacting CZ directly. I couldn’t get sites in Canada or the U.S. so I called their head office. About two weeks and I had my front sites.

Some gunsmiths are parts swappers........others are true craftsmen. Like calling a "technician " at Can tire a mechanic as a analogy.

Even so....for a price that makes.sense....the US mailbox makes sense. Wondering about the legality of declaring and bringing parts.back. Sourcing a.Huglu part might be the ticket.

Is that normal for a smith? I would have expected that a smith capable of making the replacement part would give the gun owner a quote for the expected cost of making and installing the part, and let the gun owner decide whether it's worth it or not?

you would be surprised how easy and fast it is to make a lot of parts with the correct material, a good vise and a set of quality files.

Agreed. It won't take long to get a small part together. What could take time is if there is something fiddly with timing the new cocking arm (unfamiliar with this specific action). Really though- finding someone to make a part for this should be on your list, or give it a go if you are mechanically inclined. Post a pic and I'm sure you will have some feedback on it. Then small order from a metal supply place and have at it, or there are other Turkish guns using a similar part and someone has it.

If you like the gun seems worth it to fix it. Or put it up on EE- someone will take it and fix it for the right price.

The point is that if you get caught, You may not ever get back into the US.
I know one fellow that got picked up with 22 ammo, and a scope or something like that. He is on the hit list.
BTW Some great mechanics work at Canadian Tire.

Something as small as a cocking arm id surely risk it. Even if found do you think the customs agent would know what it was?

Its not customs you're worried about. It's a department of homeland security checkpoint you'd have to worry about, they set up just before the border and if they catch you it's do not pass go, do not collect $200...

CZ is in the same ride into the toilet as any other manufacturer that outsources into the 3rd world.

Pay less and get less. They spend less to make it and you get what you pay for, they laugh all the way to the bank.

They laugh twice as hard when you continue to do business with them.

Not clear how long it will take people to become aware of this process nor if they would care.

Right now the best options are to buy old used stuff which is still in better shape and will last longer than anything new you buy now.

why? Your home free once you hit Canadian customs hahaha

The following topics will not be tolerated. Violation will result in immediate and permanent suspension. Some quasi legal/ grey/downright illegal examples that are specifically not tolerated are:

1 Shipping and driving items to Canada from the US that require US export permit.

2 Discharging firearms in places where firearms are not allowed to be discharged.

3 Manufacture or use of flammable and explosive substances or “tracer” projectiles.

4 Unblocking 5 rd magazines to regular capacity.

5 Swapping non-restricted barrel for restricted barrel at gun range.

6 Home made firearms with illegal or misleading markings. For example, marking a chunk of metal with "Valmet 78".

7 Solicitation of unregistered firearms or magazine kits.

8 No postings of any materials that could be likely considered as investment advices. Investments include financial instruements, real estates and anything deemed to be reasonable by the operator of CGN.

These rules are here to ensure that CGN will be the premium firearms site for law abiding Canadian gun owners.

Careful what you post gents...especially if it is in jest, some might not find it so funny or cheeky .

What a lot of socialist unionist bull####. Laughing all the way to the bank? CZ is likely as profitable or not as any other reasonably managed firearms company. Don’t like outsourcing to lower cost nations? Never again buy non first world made products. What’s that? You can’t find everything you need without second and third world sourcing? Like most you are hypocritically selective in your outsourcing complaints.

Companies outsource to lower cost countries for one reason and one reason only. Lower prices are what most consumers demand.

Getting back to the subject at hand, Tradex has a lot of cheap sxs's. You know what the part looks like. Maybe you can find a gun that has a similar part or at least something to start with. By the time you smuggle one out of the states, get arrested, get banned from CGN and probably catch Covid or die of the vaccine, you could probably find a donor gun for parts. And less money than a lawyer.
