Sako 75 Stainless barrels blowing up?

85's are rock-solid as far as I know. Sad about the 75's, I had a line on a nice used piece, a stainless .30-06. Owner wouldn't sell it though after he heard about the recall, brought it in to a gun shop and took store credit instead.

If i remember correctly 5 people were injured, 3 in Scandinavia, 2 in the USA, of course the company wanted to keep it under wraps.

They were very proactive about it. They didn't just issue an anonymous recall, apparently they contacted the owners via the stores they wholesaled them to.

Almost blow his hand off, 4-5 hours surgery to reconnect it.

I saw the original pictures a long time ago before they were on the link provided... at that time I had heard the shooter was not seriously injured and that this was on Northern Vancouver Island...

How is it you know about the surgery? Perhaps my information was wrong...

The reason some of these rifles failed had to do with a bad batch of steel that was used. Sako was very up front about it and publicly recalled rifles with certain serial numbers through any that had been registered for warranty and through the dealers/wholesalers who had those numbers shipped to them.

It was not due to steel that was too hard, it was due to the imperfections within the structure of the steel.

The lowest serial number affected by this recall is 419140 and the highest serial number affected is 461951;

Hy there'
I recently enrolled in CGN,mostly pistols forum.
I am an avid hunter and were only and only interested in hunting arms, just not long ago begin shooting handguns and since i have no really opportunity for everything got to go one thing at the time.I was into hunting arms a lot were familiar with them a lot,now not really that much but this is new to hear.
I have a Sako S/S 75 with serial no.43###x that falls into this category, rifle is like brand new,i have been shooting it very little and took it hunting only once.
This really upset me so dont really know what to do now.Even more bothers me that i thought that i have a rock solid gun and now kinda dissapointed...
Around muzzle end metal is peeling a tiny bit,but always thought that is from powder residue or just bad care by me.
I am also mad on seller cause he probably would have to know or do something about this recall, gun was bought in 2007 and was last one in 75 wsm series that were on sale...

Who's to blame supplier or Sako? Or a bit of both?

Would this be a steel supplier issue or a factory assembly line issue? Or a bit of both? I'm not sure exactly how they test things on the assembly line, so I am curious why it was never originally discovered before the bad batch of rifles left the factory.

This was a VERY serious mistake on Sako's part.

Just because your number is between the above numbers does not necessarily mean it is a bad one... I got the following off a web page...

There is a recall on a very small number of the stainless steel Tikka and Sako rifles. To find out if your serial number is affected, you may contact 1-800-503-8869 and provide them with your serial number and they would be able to let you know if your serial number is affected.

Best Regards,

Beretta Customer Support

I might sound a bit sceptical but couldn't help once i heard that some of these guns started to peel, mine does peel a bit and make me suspicious even more.

Well, call the number, you may get a new model 85...

Right after work I am going straight to my gun safe and looking at the s/n on the Model 75 stainless I had bought used.

Wow. What you can't learn here!

Anyone have any problems or heard of anyone having problems with the Sako 75 Stainless barrels blowing up?
I guess there was a recall on them from the company.

Old news. bad batch of steel.

My Sako m75ss, Greywolf and Tikka T3 rifles are all great shooters. Check my rifle SN..all ok. My first was a Sako m75ss in 1997/98, next were not too long after the recalls.

BTW, the video I seen on U-TUBE was not a Sako or Tikka rifle...looked more like a browning.

Does anyone have any idea how long does it take for them to answer my message!?
I called them several times and been leaving the messages with serial number, phone name and no response.Do they do same for Canada as well for USA?
Hunting season coming up,i have almost $3000 set-up that i am afraid to use,
i would be happiest to know that i have no problem and recall does not affect me.
I wouldn't have to go through the red tape,i like 75's more than 85 model and wouldn't miss a day of any H.season...

Send it to me and I'll carry it all season. I'll even take trophy pics with it for you....;)

Do you mean i shouldn't worry about recoil or you just kidding me?

I'm not kidding you. I wouldn't worry about it at all. If you want call Stoeger Canada, who imports Sakos here. 905-436-9077 or try calling Sako's main number or send a fax. Tel. (+358) 10 830 5200, Fax (+358) 19 720 446

I'd still hunt it, and not worry.

You must have stock in Sako rifles or have one for sale yourself. I think all the guy wants to do is confirm that his rife is not in the same range of the ones that are issues.
I think he should be able to do that before hunting season, and if it turns out that the rifle is an issue then he might have a new one for hunting season.
At least then he can hunt with some piece of mind the rifle is not going to blow up in his face when it counts.

H1N1 might get ya, tell that to the people who got sick from it or them that died from it.

The rifle is in the serial block. He has called Sako. They may never return his call. If they don't respond he can either hunt it, or sell it, or re-barrel it at his own cost. I would not skip a hunting season worrying about it. I have a Sako, and have not checked the serial number , and I'm not worried about it. Any rifle can blow up in your face, anytime you pull that trigger.

I'm not sure that a lady from Beretta saying your gun is OK will help you sleep better...but anyhow...
