I am currently considering purchasing a sako 85 stainless laminate, and I am looking for input on this rifle from people that own or have actually used the sako 85.
I wasnt talking about my time being 3-4 weeks it has taken months to get it done...I just have that left apparently. I was talking about the fact you mentioned that McMillian had actions there to build stocks for the 85...which they dont or maybe have a couple, just not mine.
I will take a 280 AI Cooper..... would fit nicely in my cabinet....
As for scope and mounts,I am looking at my personal favorite, the Swarovski 3x10x42 mounted in the new one piece ring mounts from Sako.
I’m not sure about the new one piece ring mounts but I know that the old 2 piece Optilock set has the scope mounted fairly high, even in the extra low rings, they can mount a 52 mm obj. lens. Have you considered other mounting system?

I'd be all over the custom 280 AI on a 700 route if it was me.
Another choice would be to buy a new Sako 75/85 in a 270 and order a custom 280 AI to your liking...

If that sako 75 stainless/synthetic in 270win comes down another $200,I will give it some thought.
Yes I know you don't like 270's but they have three new Sako 75's chambered in the 270 at reduced price. Just thought you might be interested. That's all...
nevermind, it sold...
There is more to the ring height then fitting the objective lense to the rifle when I mount a scope I want to have my eye perfectly lined up/looking thru the center of the scope I don't want to take time to re-adjust where my head is so I can see thru the scope correctly.
This can and will speed up target aquisition.
There, I fixed your typo...
A lightly used Sako 75 SS action, custom .280AI barrel, in a McMillan EDGE Sako 75 pattern, would be just about perfect...
Unfortunately,I don't see a lot of new sako 75s in 7mmremmag being advertised.
