They may look pretty (my loafers aren't light enough to see it) but that's a absurd reason to buy them if people have to remove the recoil pin to make them fit. They will be great as long you can achieve the correct eye relief with them. My giraffe neck makes it difficult for me to do so, but most folks have no problems.
I'm glad to hear that you can still get them. It surprises me that more people don't choose this elegant option over the ugly and bulky Optilock base/ring sets.

They don't need to have the pin removed...if someone did this modification because he thought it would suit him, that's on him. I don't use them because of the eye relief, but that doesn't mean they're not good...just not good for me.
The reason they are "elegant" is simply that they do the job simply, minimum number of parts, lightweight and efficient...just as an "inelegant" solution is to buy a rifle with a grooved receiver, then clamp bases onto the grooves, and then attach rings to the bases...more complicated, more parts, much more weight and therefore less efficient. Some of the numerous definitions of "elegant" include: "cleverly simply, ingenious", "of superior quality, exceptional" and "simple and precise"...are your loafers light enough to allow you to use a dictionary?
Obviously in the case blargon referenced he had to remove the recoil pin to fit his scope, not because the mood hit him but to "fit his scope". Admittedly I have no idea what type of scope blargon mounted on his .338 but if using ringmounts requires removal of the recoil pin to work on a heavier recoiling rifle then this system is neither of superior quality or cleverly simple. At that point the Leupold ringmounts at half the price and even less weight would be the "elegant solution". As for my loafers, I'm not fancy enough to own a pair, just work boots and cowboy boots.
Where did you find stainless ring mounts? I've wanted to try them for sometime but have never found any (I gave up looking 2 years ago so maybe they are available everywhere).Thank u to all who replied here... It was very helpful to me! I picked up my sako ringmounts which are stainless steel and 1" low... I have personally never seen a rifle/scope combo with a better fit. I am extremely happy with my purchase and not only is it totally functional as far as eye relief goes, but it looks damn good too!... Thanks again I am going to try and post a pic on here soon
I never had to have the pin removed on the ringmounts on my 338-06AI setup. Eye relief is great just like it always is on my other Sako m75 rifles and Leupold scopes.
