Sako Finnlight scope/ring combo? Plz help! Pics Added!!

i just mounted the optilock ringmounts on my Sako .338. solid mounts, but had to remove the recoil pin to move the ring further forward to fit my scope. also use the leupold ringmounts on my lightweight 75.

They will be great as long you can achieve the correct eye relief with them. My giraffe neck makes it difficult for me to do so, but most folks have no problems.

I'm glad to hear that you can still get them. It surprises me that more people don't choose this elegant option over the ugly and bulky Optilock base/ring sets.

They may look pretty (my loafers aren't light enough to see it) but that's a absurd reason to buy them if people have to remove the recoil pin to make them fit.

They don't need to have the pin removed...if someone did this modification because he thought it would suit him, that's on him. I don't use them because of the eye relief, but that doesn't mean they're not good...just not good for me.

The reason they are "elegant" is simply that they do the job simply, minimum number of parts, lightweight and efficient...just as an "inelegant" solution is to buy a rifle with a grooved receiver, then clamp bases onto the grooves, and then attach rings to the bases...more complicated, more parts, much more weight and therefore less efficient. Some of the numerous definitions of "elegant" include: "cleverly simply, ingenious", "of superior quality, exceptional" and "simple and precise"...are your loafers light enough to allow you to use a dictionary?

Obviously in the case blargon referenced he had to remove the recoil pin to fit his scope, not because the mood hit him but to "fit his scope". Admittedly I have no idea what type of scope blargon mounted on his .338 but if using ringmounts requires removal of the recoil pin to work on a heavier recoiling rifle then this system is neither of superior quality or cleverly simple. At that point the Leupold ringmounts at half the price and even less weight would be the "elegant solution". As for my loafers, I'm not fancy enough to own a pair, just work boots and cowboy boots.

Ive got a Burris universal base (because it was on it when I purchased rifle) and Leupold universal Low's on there. Works well enough. I usually like to use Talley lightweights but it was a nogo for the Sako Finnlight.

The Leupolds are definitely my first choice, as I stated above. But there are plenty of scope/ring combinations that simply won't work...not because of any design problems with the rings, but simply because the eye relief of a given scope may not allow it to be placed at the correct location for an individual user with certain rings. Ring spacing may also prevent certain scopes from mounting correctly, or at all. I took blargon's post to refer to one of those scenarios. In any case, I hope the OP finds something that works for him.

Thank u to all who replied here... It was very helpful to me! I picked up my sako ringmounts which are stainless steel and 1" low... I have personally never seen a rifle/scope combo with a better fit. I am extremely happy with my purchase and not only is it totally functional as far as eye relief goes, but it looks damn good too!... Thanks again I am going to try and post a pic on here soon

Where did you find stainless ring mounts? I've wanted to try them for sometime but have never found any (I gave up looking 2 years ago so maybe they are available everywhere).

I never had to have the pin removed on the ringmounts on my 338-06AI setup. Eye relief is great just like it always is on my other Sako m75 rifles and Leupold scopes.

The main reason that I chose the Leupold Ringmounts over the Sako Ringmounts, is that I couldn't move the rear Sako Ringmount ahead far enough to obtain the correct eye relief.

I took the pin out because my scope tube is 5.1" long, and thus too short for the V action with the ring all the way at the back of the rear dovetail. Even without the pin, they are a stout mount, and I have no concern with anything moving there. The scope is a VXR 4-12x40 CDS.

Last fall I used a VXII 3-9 with a longer tube and 1" Leupold rings, and had no movement either. Went with the optilock mounts, as the VXR is a 30mm scope, so needed new rings anyway.

The dovetail design will only tighten rings with recoil, not loosen.
