I'm getting geared up for the trip. All the ammo is purchased/loaded and just passing time til June. I even ordered up a six pack of trigger locks as it looks like I'll be bringing several rifles.
I noticed people will be bringing some food etc to share. I will be bringing a 5 gallon keg of home made beer. Good stuff after a dusty day of shooting. Is there anything else that I can bring from Winnipeg?
I'm curious how much ammo you guys are bringing. I can't believe how much the prices have gone up since I last bought in bulk. I'm bringing:
2500 rds CCI quick shok
1500 rds .17hmr
200 rds .243 @4000fps
300 rds .223 (brass is darn hard to find)
maybe some shotgun shells
plus what ever odds and ends need to be used up.
So about 5000 rounds for two days of shooting for two people. That seems like an awful lot. I'm taking the warning about lack of local ammo seriously though.
If anyone is selling a left handed bolt gun in .204 ruger let me know.
I will probably be brining about 1400-2000 rounds of WMR and a few bricks of American Eagle for the lever action and a few bricks of T22 for the Anschutz (I aming for heads with this baby )
I anyone bringing shooting benches?
I actually got some balls yesterday and drove about 30 min from home and knocked on a land owners door. I couldn't believe it, they were more than happy to let me shoot gophers on their land and they even gave me their phone number so next time I want to shoot, all I have to do is call and leave a message that I will be out shooting and what kind of car I am driving that day.
Anyways..... I was out there for 2 hours and only shot 1 gopher I am terrible with open sights and free hand with a scope is no better.
Just curious if someone is binging a table or something as I may bribe them with a few shells to share it with me.
Good for you bullseye. Most farmers are more then happy to let shooters on their land to clear their fields. Don't feel too bad, we were out about 5 hours and we were lucky if we shot 2 dozen between the two of us. They were chirping like crazy, but for some reason just didn't want to come above ground. Maybe the sight of the Tikka scared them.
No I won't be bringing a bench. If your having a rough time, consider buying a bi-pod that opens to sittng height, or make some extenders that fit over the legs out of pvc pipe. Cut them long enough so you can sit in a folding chair. This is what we used to do in a few honey holes. The shooting was so good we didn't have to move much. But these days I prefer to stay portable and on the move. Plus it's less crap we have to haul in the car.
That's what I will do, go buy some good shooting sticks so I can sit and shoot. I also want to be mobile, my BL-22 is awsome for that, nice and light, BUT, I can't hit the side of a barn with it so more practice with irons is needed.
Needs grass cut and a few trees trimmed...other than that it should do nicely!
The "screen house" with is used for eating and meeting is still there and intact...and hopefully still useable!!
I woulda invited you along Pharoah, but I stayed at my parents house for the whole weekend, and didnt think you would wanna stay a whole weekend with people you dont even know
Oh ya, just bought myself another 1575 rounds of ammo
