Savage 10TR le/military

Took mine out today for a spin, my first long range "precision" rifle and pretty great results out of the box with crappy ammo. Still lots to learn but def loving this rifle!
Need to work on my technique and def will stretch out her legs to 200 and beyond soon.

bought a 10TR a little while ago, unfortunately having a new born is kinda holding me back because of guilt leaving the wife at home alone...but still working on some glass anyways

Nice. I just picked up a 10x40 for mine for now

Just need to find a new range in the Ottawa area.

I shoot at EOSC and Connaught both great ranges but Cannnaught being military there are some limitations.
Send me a pm if you ever want to check either out.

My buddy's 10TR in Squamish this past weekend:

I bought a cheap brake for my TR from Mustard. Haven't installed it yet. Anybody use one of these?

Just purchased a new Savage 10TR 24" from someone privately on the Equipment Exchange. Looking at Vortex Vipers for this rifle. Will be my first .30 Caliber Rifle, mostly shoot .204 and varmint calibers in the past. Would like to shoot 200-300 yards with this .308, possibly more once my skill level improves. What kind of magnifications are you guys looking at putting on your .308 rifles? Was think 4-16 or 6-24 just because I like having the power but am open to suggestions.

Also wondering what everyone's preferred Muzzle Brakes are and where they're purchasing them? Looking for something that isn't going to "brake" the bank but will get the job done. DPMS has some nice looking flared 5/8-24 Brakes for around $60.00 from Brownell's, but would rather not have to drive down to Niagara Falls to grab it. Any ideas on a $100-$150 Brake in Canada that will look good and get the job done?

Been look at new stock for the Savage 10TR, built a sub moa load with Varget and 175SMK so its possible with just the standard stock
I have a SIII 8-32 on it as well and a M11 Severe Duty Muzzle Break
Hopefully I have time I can see how it groups at 300-400-500m

Anyone with a new stock for it, any recommendations?

Took mine out to 500 yards today with 10 hand loads I had on hand. I was testing a new powder and projectile combo that I had never tried before and sadly the results were not what I had hoped for but I had 10 rounds of an known accurate load of 168SMK in Winn cases with 42.7GR of IMR4895. Could have shot better I think as I was a little shaky today and it was a bit windy too. That said I an happy with this target and made the poor other results easier to forget.

I was reloading some ammo for my 10tr last night (165gr Interbonds) and when I tested the bullets for distance from lands they were touching the lands at 2.735", so I back them off to 2.710". Tight chamber...

That's pretty damn good shooting for 500 yards! Looks to be sub MOA!

Any idea how much jam into the lands you have?
From an earlier post of mine in this thread..."...I have a 10TR and 10FP, both 308. Using Hornady's LNL OAL gauge, the 10TR measured 2.0960" OAL with a SMK .308 Win 168 Grain. My 10FP measured 2.0915. Measuring 10x Federal Gold Medal Match .308 Win 168 Grain my average OAL was 2.2230". SO, they are jamming into the lands by 0.134" / 0.138". Running one of these into the chamber and extracting you can clearly see rifling marks..."

Thanks Baggy

Yeah, I figure it to be about .8'ish MOA give or take. But I have been busy and have not measured it and don't have the fancy computer program to eaisily do it. I was definitely pretty happy with it as I had never shot that load out to 500 before nor ran it over a chrony so I guessed on 9moa adjustment and shot the first group and low and behold... :)

Here's my results at 500 Yards this week-end:

I'm getting more and more used to this rifle, I can surely do better. Hornady A-Max BTHP 168gr in Lapua case withIgr of MR-4895.
I love it :)
