Savage 10TR le/military

I am proud of having won the 1st place (we were two with equal score) at a PRS competition in Québec, with my Savage 10TR.

The rifle didn't let me down :) The proof that a low end rig can have success in competition. And it's my first competition ever!!!

Congrats on the win! Very impressive and on your first competition no less!
What do you use for glass on your 10TR ?

Only a Vortex Viper PST 6-24x. It was maxed out on elevation (even with a 20MOA scope rail) when shooting at 1036 meters (need 55.5MOA!!). Super windy day, in the morning the Wind was kinda steady at 15km/h, but was getting very unstable in the afternoon, varying between 0 and 20km/h and switching direction. So I didn't hit the 1KM target, too bad :(

My own reloads, speer 180gr grandslam, using cfe223 powder. Mixed brass (once fired), no annealing, Winchester LRP. Also crimped using Lee factory crimp.

Only shot at 100m. Groups were about an inch to inch and a half, it was a bit windy last Sat. I can do better, it's just the guy behind the rifle that needs to improve.

What ammunition did you shoot?

Yourself what did you use for your competition?
Brass brand?
I reloaded 178gr A-Max with 41.6gr of IMR-4895 in a Lapua neck turned brass, with winchester large rifle primers. these are getting out at 2660 fps (2 deg. Celcius)

Now that A-Max are discontinued, I have to make myself a new load with the 178gr ELD's. Shouldn't be far from the A-Max, but the BC is a tad better.

Thanks! I'm also using 178gr Hornady. I went with match profile since i don't hunt with this rifle

MDT sent me my tracking number, about to post pics of finalised build!

Got a 10 round mag for mine during SFRC's Easter sale, and picked up some glass on the weekend. Definitely not enough for 1k meters, but should be enough for the 300 meter range I'm currently shooting at. When I outgrow it, it'll go onto my AR. Now I just need to get myself some rings.

Me too am shooting 300M in an ottawa range, if you see a 10TR dressed in an FDE chassis come and say hi!

Sounds like you're shooting out of Stittsville too, lol. Mine will definitely not be as well dressed as yours, but I figured for a relatively short range, and considering I've never owned a bolt gun before it'll do. I'm hoping to have it out next weekend, just deciding on rings. Right now I'm thinking of just going with Weaver tactical rings, although it's very tempting to go with something fancier.

Which mag did you buy ?
I am waiting on an SR from I Run Gunz and it should be here hopefully soon as I ordered it April 15th before the cut off ...........
I bought a Viper PST for mine a couple weeks ago.
Got ammo , glass , bi pod etc . Come on IRG !

The factory Savage 10 rounder. Mine's an older model so it came with the 4 round magazine.

It is a beauty, comments so far,
In direct sunlight it looks more light tan than FDE.
Picture doesn't do it justice, it really is an art piece in person.

Chassis is lighter than expected,
With torque settings of a 65in/lbs! I have reason to believe the action is tight to the V shaped bedding.

I did have a hard time minding myself to pay more for chassis than rifle, as the savage action footprint is not found very much from custom builders.
So chassis might have limited future use if i end up with a custom R700 footprint someday.

Speaking of weight, where is the balance point with this setup? Is it as barrel heavy as I assume, or does the receiver and scope make up for it?

P.S. Cute lion.

I will check when i get back home, assembled during lunch break as i was close from home!

Got a steel 20 moa ATRS rail, 0.5lbs scope mount, and a 3lbs scope
It does add rear weight, with factory stock it was not balanced, was tilting to the rear easily

Lol at Lion, he photobombed my savage build picture

Juat spent 30 minutes playing around and closely observing rifle.
Setup weights in @ 13.75lbs total, unloaded with empty 10 rounds plastic mag
Here is the balance point

Which means, if i center my hand with the black forward rest, rifle will dip at the rear end

Here a few pictures at different angles, colour won't show the same one pic to another,
I am still very happy with my colour setup

As far as scope height goes, i wanted to be able to clear a non railed full tube handguard.
In the event i would prefer one once it gets out.
Clearance seems to allow this.

Will start load development this week.
Won't be using Lapua brass yet as i want to refine my reloading skills and tooling before loading the premium brass
