Thought folks on here should be aware of this. Maybe this info is already out there....

I have had many discussions with the Canadian Savage office as I have a rifle in for warranty issues for about 2.5 months now. The service depot/shop is great but they cannot get the parts needed to fix the issues. Was told that no guess could be made as to how long this will drag on for - that info was right from Savage Canada as well as the depot....

Savage has said they can fix the problem by replacing the defective rifle. - Update - Now solved to my satisfaction!

Apparently they cannot export due to export license issues as in apparently they do not have a valid one at the moment. Savage Canada confirmed by phone that it is their current status. New info - apparently will be sorted within next three weeks.

They should be letting their distributors/resellers know this or at least post it on their website.

Edited because - New info!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Hooray! :dancingbanana:

Talked to Customer service manager as Savage Canada suggested. They are looking after me directly and have offered a very agreeable solution.

Let me just say my faith in this company has been restored! I will have a new rifle home by early next week.

I just had to get through the red tape to get to the right person!

I did suggest they post some info on the web.

The war on terrorism is terrifying.
So much for free trade eh! You'd think a company that makes money exporting firearms could service their warranty centers in those same markets without a bunch of govt. interference and hassle.

Wouldn't the distributors be stuck in the same boat? They could have a lot of inventory that they can't send back and can't sell. but there's nothing wrong with the inventory, they have money tied up in that inventory and they will have to move it. I bet most Savage arms never need any service and they will be able to move most of it based on that.

Which rifle are you having the problem with? Is it here in Canada?

Here's a thought; many Canadian companies deal with this bureaucracy day in and day out.
Obviously someone running a desk at Savage is terribly behind on thier important paperwork/permits.

How exactly have you been lead to believe it's not a temporary problem?

The Savage rep/repair depot told me that they have no idea and could not even guess as to when shipments may be able to be resumed. What would that lead you to believe?

If they knew or could even guess, I would think they would tell me and of course the only information I have and can share is what Savage is willing to tell me.
Can't see why they would be dishonest with me. Keep in mind I have a few Savage guns and do enjoy them. Only reason I called was because the repair depot told me flat out that they cannot get parts because of the "issue". I called to try and find some type of resolution from Savage directly. That was a complete waste of time.

Do you have any information that is more up to date? If you do please share.

I hope they will get it straightened out.

It is a Mod 25 WV and is in Canada as you cannot ship to the US. You have to use their depot.

I consider it akin to us getting ATT's we all do it but it's still a waste of time and resources.
Companies licenesed and permited to export guns into Canada should be able to export warranty service and parts with minimal hassle.

Or because NAFTA is anything but Free trade. It's a hideous screen for blow the right bureaucrat just right and then maybe we'll let you ship.

Can't see this lasting any length of time (export issues), probably a glitch or slow down on the U.S Govt side processing it.

The Lakefield operations is primarily for Savages' rimfire line, however it is used as an import facility by Savage for Centrefire rifles.

I wonder the exact same thing. Maybe that is why they told me they couldn't give me a date. They did not imply that in any way but who knows. They only share what they choose to share.

All of my Savages to this point haven't been problematic. This is a new experience for me but not one I would like to repeat. I have to wonder if this is more of a customer service issue. If they said to me that it would be another couple months I could accept that to some degree. Maybe wouldn't like it but would chalk it up as tough luck.

If I here anything further, I will post it.

The Ruger and Rossi warranty guys are the same in that they can't just order a screw and get it in a few weeks.....they need to wait until there is a bulk of stuff to ship up so that it is efficient with all the BS procedures.

What's that you need a 2$ screw for your gun..... OK we will put it in the system and it will arrive when ever it arrives..... sorry we don't know.

My bet would be that as said back there the US gov't shut down has something to do with the pickle that Savage and I'm sure others find themselves in. Export=US government permit, federal government shut down=no permit. Hope they get sorted out quickly, no issues with my two Savages rifles but it would sure suck if one broke something right now.
