Savage Axis .223 or Merkel SXS .375 H&H???

That skull pattern is right cool. Look about right with a Barska 4-12x50 with knobs.

What about a laminate of the skull pattern? Skulls on each ply of the laminate... Holy awesomeness! That's like 50 times the skulls!

I hadn't thought of "knobs," to be honest they just don't come to mind... but I am a firm believer in seeking the opinion of an expert. Can you expound at length on knobs... stats suggest that there will be other readers interested also...

Due to the recent swell in popularity of this cartridge, local gas stations are sold out of ammo and are not expecting shipments anytime soon. I'd seriously look at something else. You don't want to book a $20,000 cape buffalo hunt and not be able to get ammo at a local African tyre shop just in case you forget yours.

A quick google searched showed that only 43% of gas stations are sold out of .30/06 ammo.... those are better than even odds when I run out.

You'll be able to make money on the Axis when you sell it on EE after youre done with it ..with the Merkel, not so much so! :(

The .223 will give you a superior ballistics advantage if you use heavy for caliber boolits :)

Either way, have fun and please take lots of pics to share with us on your return :) :)

HEY! Thanks... I never even thought of resale... Of course the Axis is worth more on resale! It might even pay for my trip...

on your return :) :)

I am detecting a note of cynicism in this statement... but can't for "the life of me" fathom why???

Yeah, the EE resale value on used Axis rifles is great but you might have to give it a camo paint job to gain maximum recoupabilityness :)

Dilemma solved, the ammo question is answered by using green tip M-855/SS-109 for the head on buffalo shot you'll surely experience...

If the first round on your buffalo (be sure the buff is at least 45") is a varmint bullet, the head on shot will quickly follow...

I understand that the head on shot is highly favored by buff experts... I am a very frugal shooter, I can't see the need to waste a shot just to get the buff turned toward me... so I am having my wife make me up a special suit for the hunt, this otta turn his head!;

And my matching gunstock for the Axis;

And my back-up weapon (just in case the Axis doesn't get it done);

Rrrraaarrr....

Wish I would have known. You could have just bought this one!

Ted

I couldn't take that from you Ted... that gun is so "you!"

Seriously? The .303 has killed more animals on this planet than God...that's what my Grandpa's cousin's girlfriend told me, so you know it's true! Just pick up an old Lee Enfield and you're good to go.
Oh yeah, and just use the iron sights...that's all a real hunter needs.:rolleyes:
