I just picked up a Model 10 with a 20" barrel in .308. I need a base and rings for it. Looking to mount a Bushnell 6500 on it. I have a 4200 6x24x50 Tactical scope I might switch over or get a 6500 4.5-30x50mm. What rings are best for the 6500? I am thinking a Farrell solid 15 moa base(SAV-RTS) and Steel rings. Unsure of height or if there a better(cheaper) options out there? For most of the time shots will be 100-300m with a few days at longer ranges.

Another question... Is there a 10 round mag avalible for the new Precision carbine in .308? Would be cool for the steel plate comps and general fun.

If you're shooting under 500 yards, stick to a 0 MOA base. I'm using an EGW base topped with Burris Signature Zee Rings (without utilizing the MOA internal rings), myself.

Google up Sharp Shooters' Supply for reasonably-priced nine-round mags. Be forewarned, wait times are hovering over four months to receive them in Canada.

Thanks for the link firemachine69. Wish I didn't buy 2 extra 4rd mags now:redface:. I stole the parts off my 12Fvss just to take it out tomorrow but I am thinking the Ken Farrell base and maybe the Burris XTR rings to save some $$$. Would anyone know what height in rings I would need with this base and ring combo? Just have to drop a picture in as well now that I have a working rifle...

If you are using a Farrel MOA base, you should be able to get away with a med set of Burris XTB tactical rings. I always use a slightly taller ring just to be sure.

If you really want to save money, I would recommend the Burris XTB bases. These are a 2pc steel base about the same height as a weaver base. Very well built.

Now put the scope in some extra high Burris sig Zee 30mm rings and you even have a set of 10 thou shims you can use if desired. This is the most economical way to set up your scope and will do all you want and then some. Base and rings = Farrel MOA base alone.

Similar to what you have pictured except more adjustable.

Let me know if I can source you product.

Thanks,

Jerry

Thanks Jerry. I know I will be coming in soon for parts and a scope. I have been on your site quite a few times looking  Just have to watch out for these impulse buys(I do like this rifle already!):D

Got out today with a scope and mount borrowed from my 12Fvss and it was WINDY! Gusts from all 4 directions in the afternoon:( I wish I could of had a calm day to try out my new rifle but no such luck. Might take it with rock climbing tomorrow and see if the wind died down. Now to the real news. Best group of the day was at 100yards and measured .866 using Winchester SuperX 180gr Silvertip( I know match stuff is on order). Did see a lot of shakes in the scope so by no means is this the rifles fault! Had groups open up to just under 3" in the wind at 200yards so my wiggles and all the wind were not going to make it a day to see what this rifle could do:redface: Just a rough day to get groups. Will be trying for better soon! Now a few pics...

Just an update now that I had a chance to get out to Wolverine Supplies and try some match grade 168gr Federal Gold Metal Match ammo... Best group of the day was 24.3mm or .955 inches at 300yards:eek:. Thats a 0.32 MOA group! 2nd best group was 28mm but I flinched on the 4th shot so went to 66mm:mad: And a pic of my day out at the range!

Can you tell I am happy?:D:D:D

After picking up my own Precision Carbine, I can also attest to the accuracy of these suckers.

It seems to love any kind of Federal blue box I've thrown in it, with the best results from the cheapo 180 grain powershoks, (I've only been shooting out to 200 yards as of yet though).

Of course I haven't tried any Gold Match yet :D

That's a nice range and some nice groupings you've got there Icedragon!

Just curious but is there a reason you photo your targets upside down all the time?

I never even noticed that:redface: I better pay attention next time but a circle is a circle to me:D

CannonFodder41- I hope you can post some pics of your groups. Would like to see how the different ammo works. Try a box of the match stuff! Worth the extra $$$ if you have a low wind day!

This rifle is worth the $$$. I think its a great deal for what you get. Just wish I had the cash for a range finder and lots more ammo. Would like to find a spot to reach out a bit. A Kestrel and a ballistics program on a itouch would be sweet too!

Looking good guys. I hope my PC in 223 shoots as nicely as your 308's when I finally get it back. I'm regretting sending it away for work before shooting it but I'm hoping it's worth the wait.
