SBI Ruger 10/22 Magazine Adapter

I know this is an older thread.. but any chance of higher cap 597 mags being available?

They don't make the magazines, they make the adapters that allow you to use the 597 magazines in a Ruger 10/22. 70 round drum mags exist for the 597, but you're on your own for finding them.

I've discovered that this adapter does not function with the Grey Birch Solutions bolt, despite the bolt itself being compatible with 10/22 rifles. Wish I had known this before buying the adapter, as the GBS is the only 10/22-pattern rifle I own 😭

Has this adapter been tested with any other aftermarket 10/22 bolts, or is it only guaranteed to work with stock Ruger parts?

Yes, we tested it with several bolts. Ruger OEM, Brownells, Tactical Solutions, Tactical Innovations, and our own bolt that we're working on. No issues with any of those.

Does the GBS bolt snag on the mag or something?

Yes, the bolt will not move forward as it is getting stuck on the mag's feed lips.

The adapter itself is functioning fine, as it holds the ProMag magazine snug and locks securely into the reciever. Just this particular combination of GBS Bolt + ProMag 597 magazine are not compatible.

It had assumed if it worked with one 10/22 bolt it would work with all, but this is not the case. Oh well, live and learn I suppose.

Tried the adapter with a kidd bolt in a ruger receiver and a C-71 receiver. Both cases it struggles to feed unless I push up on the bottom of the magazine. Factory Ruger bolt works fine with the adapter in both receivers.

Ruger bolt on the left, Kidd on the right. The Kidd bolt will not feed from the SBI adapter.

Ok so I wasn't the only one...

Had nothing but problems in my build using a KIDD bolt as well.
That's deceiving...

Do we know if these functions with Volq bolts ?

Not willing to repeat the same mistake as my current Kidd bolt...

Yes they are. They run the same as any other mag.

Just got the aluminum adapter directly from SBI as well as a clear plastic ProMag 597 mag for my Ruger 10/22 carbine.

Guess what? Bolt won't close. I also purchased a second identical ProMag 597 mag from "The Big C-word" and am experiencing the same issue - looks like the feed lips are ever so slightly too high.

So my question: can the bolt catching issue be dealt with by simply removing a tiny bit off the top of the feed lips with sandpaper? Or am I going to completely wreck the mag?

Try this first:

1) Insert the empty mag.
2) Drop the bolt.
3) Keep dropping the bolt until it closes and moves free.

That will wear a tiny bit of material off the mag.

Just a FYI to everyone.

I just purchased the 10/22 to 597 magazine adapter for my old 199x Ruger 10/22 Target from a LGS in Newmarket and three 597 Promag magazine. Does not work. As others have mentioned my factory bolt will not close. Gets stopped by the mag lip.

Unless the LGS will issue a refund I just wasted a lot of money.

Good Luck everyone who gets one.

I got one of these recently too and initially had the same issue. Just push your bolt forward to close it on the mag and rack it back and forth a few times. This is wear down the slightest bit of plastic on the mag. I took mine to the range and fed a full mag of 25 rounds through it without any issues! I was very impressed with the performance.
