School me on SKS’s

Trigger assembly is easy to remove
Put the safety on and use a 7.62x39 round to push the button on the back of the trigger guard, it even has a divot on it to hold the tip of the bullet from slipping off
Once it pops just unhinge it from the front

Right, if it's hard to remove then it's probably safety in the wrong position. Also, a punch or a philips screwdriver can be used instead of a round to push that button.

Some of them are pretty tight. Once you have the hang of it then it is not a problem. Sort of like reassembling a Ruger Mk.1/2/3/4 pistol.

I would not use a round to release it. Some are pretty tight. I always use a Phillips screwdriver and a mallet, I had one where I had to use a sledgehammer. Just hammer away, you won't break anything.

Accuracy depends a lot on the ammo. Best is Barnaul, I still have a stack. I have a Russian one which got a nice trigger, probably got a trigger job from the guy before me (the one with the AK mag release). Makes a difference. The hardest job is to change the hand guard. Getting that pin out is not for the faint of heart.

It’s not a precision weapon… bore condition like that will have minimal effect on accuracy on this platform. Heck… I have k98 heavily frosted bore that shoot like a laser.

A Savage Axis is quite accurate. Let him have it.

The SKS was always the most fun to shoot and modify, ever since I started with the sport, and everybody else I introduced thinks the same. It is just fun. So many bashers out there. Who cares.

Scianna ! I need to look back on the thread and see what your recommendations were .
As you and others might have guessed I purchased the coming SKS due to my YouTube travels , inquisitiveness , history of it .
I doubt I would hunt with it as I have rifles for that . I would like to make it as accurate as possible and have Safe Fun with it .
Maybe get hired out for wedding receptions with volleys into the heavens .

One more . I’m going to have questions

I get that you are going to have questions, if you REALLY want to understand how the platform works. Back in the day I understood in detail how the AR15 and AKs trigger assemblies functioned internally, but it wasn't until I watched videos like those that I actually really understood how the SKS trigger assembly worked.

What ammunition do you fellas use mostly . Steel or Brass cased ?
Thank You
anything non corrosive

With brass case: PPU, MFS, PMC if i could find them
With steel case: Barnaul

I am planning to get some Norinco Red box as the bills are tough these days, just worry if they are really non corrosive

Hmmm. Well they claim Red Box made after 2019 is non corrosive . But that’s
THEY and who knows who THEY are

On another note I don’t really know much about reloading but I take it you can’t reload steel ammo ?
