As I was walking back from the deer stand this morning, I ran my hand over my scope (for no reason) and I heard a clink. Looked at the scope, and the rear ring was moving. My Talley one piece lightweight mount was broke. So, now I don’t want to replace it with the same mount, and I was wondering what was out there for options. I’d prefer a weaver type base if anybody makes one.

I have a rail I don’t need. Came off a 84m,
edit: looks like yours is a 84L so not very useful…
Otherwise a set of two piece Leupold standard rings and bases are pretty bullet proof

Here is the S&K setup. Machined from billet steel, incredibly strong, windage adjustable, and they don’t hang over the loading port.

And even better if you don’t like cast crap or machined pot metal. I think the OP clearly demonstrates that. Leupold has gone the same direction.

Warne uses a stronger strength alloy

but I would be checking to see if the correct Talley was used , a proper fit to the profile
and that the proper torque is used, 'tight plus a 1/4' can break things
not saying that is the case here

I am a very big fan of Leupold dual Dovetail rings/bases. But the new ones are not what they used to be. Here is a set that have been modified to fit the modifications done to the rifle. You can tell the front of the base has been faced to match the rear bridge. You can also see that the rear bridge has been filed and the base has been filed to fit. In over 15 years and three barrels this rifle has never lost zero. If you get something that works you don’t need parts and pieces from Bob’s Hardware. Boutique has its place.

I'm a big fan of Warne bases. Many years of use on multiple rifles and never a problem.
This isn't an isolated issue with Tally lightweights cracking.

I would just get another set of Talley’s. Torque them down properly and try again. Mabey there was a poor casting in those? Or over torqued?

Leupold dual dovetails are good and certainly not boutique.
Talleys LW have served me well but there’s no arguing that failure. Which is surprisingly severe.
Even with a crowbar, properly installed and torqued mounts are hard to break. Weavers included.

I would run leupold DD on my kimbers but I can’t abide by the port overhang. Ive switched a few to warne/nightforce like forealboreal and I love the combo although it’s ugly. I love the look of the s&k but can’t get em low enough for my liking.

Impressive talley failure never seen one split like that. Screams over torque to me but I’m no expert! I’ve broken 2 scopes in the same set of talleys with no failure but maybe im just “lucky”.

I had the exact same thing on a 700. No, they were not over torqued. I will not use Talley LW’s on any of my rifles after that.

Had three sets here a month or so back for another persons Kimber, looked like a two year old made them for an art project.
