Scope recommendations to look at

I’m in the process of putting a 6mmBR together and am basically down to buying the optic at this point.

I’m not made of money but I’m willing to spend up to $3k territory. I fell for the whole vortex unquestionable lifetime warranty like so many other but I’m tired of distortion at higher power, the poor eye relief at higher magnification. They have served their purpose and now it’s time to start getting into some actual quality glass.

What I’m looking for is a higher magnification scope with good glass and clarity at higher/max power. I will be using this for stationary targets at set distances up to 600yrds with some occasional shooting going out to a 1000yrds. For those I can dial, I also want the ability to shoot at multiple targets at different distance so I’m wanting a Xmas tree style reticle with hash marks for hold over shooting. Im looking for a MOA reticle with 0.250” adjustment in FFP.

To give a idea of what I’m looking for, I’d buy a delta stryker hd 5-50x56mm in a heart beat if it was FFP

Recommendations and suggestions for me to do a little homework on would be appreciated.

curious why FFP is so important?

as well as the high end-x power, 50X is a short list

So much easier to do holdovers. Atleast OP actually said what his use case was this time!

"0.250” adjustment"
You mean 1/4 moa btw, which is basically every scope ever...only higher end target ones use 1/8

If you can find a Zeiss LRP S3 that would be the ticket. Just over $3K before tax new and you should get VERY close to $3k used, if you wait/find one.

I would also look at the Sightron line up, but just can't remember the model you want to look at.

nothing that can't be done with sfp, which also has the advantage of the smaller reticle picture for a more accurate poa
but to each their own

I see a lot of the big name scopes selling around $3K used… if I was you I’d start there. Otherwise try and swing a leupold mark 4.

I might take a chance on Apex Rival sometime

Nightforce nx8 and trijicon tenmile coming in at $300 above your budget and would be more than serviceable.

It’s an expensive rabbit hole

Sightron:

SIII PRECISION LONG RANGE
FFP 6-24X50 ZERO STOP

People always recommend Sightron but I haven’t looked through one yet or even seen them on the firing line? Where to buy?

If your're into MOA, tons of used 5-25 ATACR on #######/gunuts for sale at a usually very good price being MOA.
also as second poster said mark4hd fits in your price range and will do great.

Aren't most FFP scopes in mils not moa? Also aren't they generally bigger clicks than 1/4 moa?

I would say generally a lot of the big names offer sfp and ffp, nightforce came out with a huge SFP line for each scope.
1/10th of a full mill is .36" vs .25" yes slightly bigger.

Thanks for all the feedback guys.

The $3k budget wasn’t a hard line in the sand but more to give the necessary info that’s always asked when people ask for recommendations.

I did mean 1/8 MOA adjustments as it is slightly finer than 0.1 mil, but it seems to be pretty rare configuration for a FFP scope but if anyone knows of one I’m all ears.
The reason for the wide magnification range was to cover all possibilities I might have overlooked but 32x will definitely fit the application.

I’ve done a decent amount of reading and looking into the above recommendations and had it narrowed down to the Nightforce NXS 8-32, Nightforce NX8 4-32 or the Leupold mark4 8-32

So I have a few questions for those that own or have owned these specific scopes.

Is the difference between the NXS and NX8 worth the difference?
I personally like the fact the NX8 dials down to 4x
I’m a little hesitant about the Mark 4 as the stories of Leupold scopes not tracking properly aren’t uncommon and I personally know people who’s Leupolds lost zero from bumps that shouldn’t have done so.
I know both have lifetime warranties which is definitely something I want spending this kind of money on glass but I don’t want to become familiar with the warranty program.
There’s a few other scopes that definitely fit the bill but the horror stories of their warranty service means they’ll never get my business.

Any other recommendations I should look at before I pull the trigger on a Nightforce?

Could you please elaborate on this, from my understanding a SFP reticle hash marks are only accurate at a specific power and that won’t work for the purpose of the scope I want.

Subtensions can be charted for more than one power settings, , so unless you are on the clock its easy to use
FFP is best for determining things like distance, target size if you have to map those out, but our description of your shooting sounds pretty casual
Most shooing can be done with a pre-determined power setting, not like you are changing power regularly
For your distances, determine if it can all be done with say? 15X and 25x ? Two charts of reference

The smaller reticle size of the sfp may be a larger advantage for precision shooting, over being able to dial any power

I ran an STAC 4-20 on my first 10/22. Darn great scope for the price that is was, and gave WAY better late evening light gathering making it a very clear scope to shoot with. Will not hesitate with Sightron at all if the need comes up. Only reason I don't run one now is I'm running a bit better glass, but that usually means more $$ that what the OP is looking for.

Honestly the NX8 is worth the money over the NXS.

I haven't had any issues with my mark 4 tracking. That said for peace of mind you definitely can't go wrong with a nightforce. They make some quality scopes.

Other option if you want something a little more budget friendly look at the Athlon Cronus. I have one on my .223 and I love it.
