compensation was offered when other firearms were confiscated in the past, spas 12 for example. How would they justify not paying going forward? What if "no compensation" was written into law?

im not sure that would rest easy with canadians, otherwise other leisure things could also be made prohibited and confiscated without compensation:
swimming pools
leisure boats, jet skis et al
motorcycles
scooters
cars with more than 200hp
high fat foods
cigarettes
down hill skis
all of these pose a higher public safety hazard and health hazards and have incurred more negligent deaths per year than firearms
You may as well get an AR for that money seeing as they're both restricted.I've no experience with it but have you considered the Mossberg MMR Hunter? AR-patterned and going for about C$700.

Isn't it restricted?
I'm looking for NR.

you are assuming I was not one of them. You may want to ask some of the guys on here if they got compensated for their SPAS-12s.

when this topic has come up in the past, other owners on here have been very adamant that compensation was offered in the instance of the spas 12 so I am not sure what happened in your fathers case when comparing it to my own experience and others posted on this forum.
many refused the compensation offered so as to not agree with the confiscation but that is another matter

this is true, however your post makes it sound like you think fighting for compensation is a bad idea. You have NO property rights.

I have had property (land) taken (expropriated) by the government and fought for compensation and won even though we have no property rights in canada. Just because it is firearms you think we should all sit back and let the government do as they please?

then what was your post about if it was not that we have no property rights and that fighting for compensation when property is taken is futile in your opinion?Did I say that? Please don't put words in my mouth, and try not to assume
I don't know what you guys are smoking. If you think your going to be compensated for unjust prohibited firearms in Canada you had better think again. You have NO property rights. Therefore, the govt owes you nothing. My suggestion, bury it and pray for a gun friendly CPC majority.
A mass Confiscation like the one another poster hinted at that is being discussed will not rely on people willingly turning them in/over to get compliancelots of people would be hard pressed to give anything even for compensation. No compensation they will have such a minute turn in rate it would be worthless.
