Semi-Sten: CFC AND RCMP approved and Home at Last

Well, the CFC and RCMP have ma de a ruling - and I'm certainly NOT going to let it stop me from using the regs to maximum advantage.

The alternative is no Sten fun. And I don't like that alternative, so... my BD38 will soon have a new playmate.

I agree. The 5 round mag limitation is FAR more irritating than the RCMP making me manufacture a new mag well housing.
The whole idea if I reman a part for my gun will make it safer is rediculas.
It does alter the collectors value,
But hey. if works , go for it. I hope we'll get our .22 's look a likes back!

The rules were made by idiot's anyways!

No collector's value altered here - look up higher in this thread for a pic of the kit I'm robbing for parts. It's a 1970's Canadian Army LB Sten that was torch-cut completely in two when dewatted and left to rust for a while before being sold as scrap ;) If anything, I'm SAVING it.

I agree with you totally.
What I meant was, If I alter my original intact sten I will alter the collectors value of it!
I've seen some beautiful work on here.

Actually a MK2 with a fake silencer would be a lot more historically accurate. There was never a suppressed MK3.

Actually from the historical aspect, the SOE Sten MkII(S) was fitted with a semi-auto only selector any way.

The CISA long type silencer as used by the SOE was 22-1/2" x 2-1/4"

The standard selective MkII(S) silencer was 12-3/4" x 1-1/2"

I'm not sure how you'd fit a semi-auto selector to a Sten? I do know the original Sten suppressor wouldn't take much in the way of FA fire.

A collar was fitted around the selector, so that it could not be pushed through to the left. If desired, it is a simple matter to make a semi auto only selector.

Some more photos...

I still don't have the SAS3 kits, so other stuff is being done in the meantime.

The SAS3 design precludes using the push-through safety MkV cocking handle, so we're going to go with MkII handles. Now, nobody who is sane would chop an original MkII handle, so we are making exact copies for the two MkII guns being built (one a restricted LB, the other is a non-restricted Brit sten with dummy silencer for those who are keeping track).

Here's some work on the handles, the bases are left fat so they can be individually fitted to the bolt bodies when they arrive.

Knurling tools are GREAT:

Voila!

For comparison with a real (and rare) early war MkII cocking handle:

I think that a Sten magazine is sufficiently larger than most pistol magazines that an adapter could be fitted into the magazine housing to accept pistol magazines. That might be preferable to a dedicated magazine housing. Because of the interpretation that the magazine housing is the receiver, it might not be practical to have magazine housings for different magazines.
