seriously... why is black badge training so expensive?

:DDo you need a holster course or Black Badge course to shoot USPSA?

No, and technically you don't need it for IPSC either, but here in Canada it is required, so if you shoot USPSA in the US...no...if you shoot USPSA at a Canadian club...yes

Just busting chops.:p

If you are new to the sport, the Black badge course is the best thing you can do for yourself.
Besides, I hear that now there is a really nice girl who can out shoot most of us including me that is now an instructor!:p
Go and take the course, you will be able to shoot +500 rounds and get to know the rules and be part of very opinionated group who enjoy vigorous talk.:D

No that's not correct. I've had Americans at Canadian USPSA matches so they don't need a IPSC black badge since we have reciprocity between the sanctioning bodies.

So when you host a USPSA match anyone can come and shoot with no holster qual?
Actually thats not a fair question, when I talked to the BOD of USPSA about holding a large Level II type match up here the one thing they stressed was that if we were to hold USPSA Matches in Canada it would have to be IPSC Canada members (or members of and other IPSC member country) only. They do not want to be, or to be seen as, a rival organization in Canada (or any other country) So since all members of IPSC Canada must have a BB to shoot and be members, that would preclude non BB qualified shooters from attending....aside from foriegn IPSC members.

Although there is a safety briefing notification for uspsa matches that are expecting joe blow off the street.

Can a Canadian citizen/resident not join USPSA without joining IPSC Canada?

You can, BUT if you read the fine print on foreign USPSA membership, you supposed to be a member of your local IPSC Affiliate.

I only shoot a few IPSC matches anymore, I shoot 90+% of my matches in the US now, but I pay my IPSC membership because I like to support the sport.

is it not funny that we do not trust our own citizens enough to use a holster without a course, and yet we allow Joe Blow American or Sally Singapore come into the country to shoot competition without the same qualifications.

I trust the proficiency of most anyone who's willing to travel from another country to shoot a competition here more than I trust Joe six pack who's too stingy to pay a few hundred bucks for a black badge course. It takes a lot of range time to be fast, accurate and safe in an match. Range time costs money. Joe Blow American and Sally Singapore are likely pretty regular IPSC shooters in their homelands and thus a proven commodity unless they like to waste money on a trip to a foreign country to shoot a match they are going to lose. If you are unwilling to do the simplest thing to be involved, why bother?

I am sure those uspsa members who travel to canada for ipsc matches aremembers in good standing of their respective regions/ countries. Again, the black badge is more than a holster course. Once u complete it you will realize that.

Very well said! I have zero sympathy for the fools out there that complain about a couple hundred dollars spent on a course, or a couple of hour drive.
My BB cost me well over a thousand dollars to get via a flight to Vancouver.

Probably the kind of people you don't want shooting IPSC anyways.

In New Brunswick the course is 125 bucks (includes membership in IPSC NB) I think this is a great value. I have to travel from PEI a great opportunity to meet shooters and have a lot of safe fun. 500 rounds of fun, why couldn't school be like that 30 years ago.
