sharing the meat

We also share all meat. Usually there are four guys in our camp. If we get one deer its split 4 ways. One year the only game we got was a little fawn (35lbs of meat)that the old man swears was huge when he pulled the trigger. Well ya...when yer scope is on 9X and the friggin deer is twenty feet away! Everyone had a taste anyway.

This year will be easy to split up the game. The whole freakin camp was "skunked". We spent more days hunting this year than the last three years combined and ZILCH NOTTA. Frustrating as hell but thats the way she goes I guess.

During bow season it's the deer of whoever shot it but have the option to share it with the guys they are hunting with at the time but during gun season it's all split up among whoever came out that week.

When we are in moose camp we always share the meat. There are four of us that go, and although we can each legally shoot a moose we limit our camp to taking two moose per year. We always go back to the same camp, one of the guys has been going there for 15 years already. Half a moose each is lots of meat and by doing this we know there will still be moose there the next year, besides we are all deer hunters too. This is our meat hunt so to speak, we don't wait for the big guys to show, as long as it is a legal bull the hunt is on.

When we go deer hunting though we do it differently. What ever you tag is what you take home. Some guys like to trophy hunt so they may go for a few years without shooting something, and they are ok with that. Others like to take a deer home to eat, and shoot what ever they are happy with that comes along. So it isn't really fair to a meat hunter to have to share his meat with somebody that doesn't care if he has deer in the freezer or not, just as long as he gets a nice set of antlers for the wall.

Myself and three friends always share the meat from our annual elk hunt.We usually take five or six animals on this week long trip, everyone has enough meat. This year we took an elk, a moose, and three deer.

Our rifle camp shares the meat, everyone works hard for it everyone should get a little. When we head out with the bows it is who ever helps that shares the meat, if one of the guys hunts alone and has to do all the work himself than it is his. This being said my father and I butcher all our own deer, so if he gets one without me or I get one without him we both end up butchering and always seem to come to an agreement.

I usually hunt by myself or with one other person. In the latter case we always share.

I like it when hunting buddies have tags for something I don't , that way you get a varity. As far as getting it all sorted, we never have a problem. Great way to get some Elk or Moose if you only got a deer tag. But a caution , get the paper work in order if your gonna travel any distance. I got caught in Alberta on the way to the Airport, and was so mad at myself for not looking into it, I came home with no meat at all. The DNR folks had no choice, so my buddy returned home with the meat, and there was a varity of game, and some buffalo.
Oh well thats something I overlooked. All animals were legal , but the paperwork for me to get it to N.S. was not. I could have sorted the deer meat out of it , but most of it was not deer. So I told my buddy to take it back to his place after the stop. Sorry about the rant, just maybe someone else will not get caught in this manner.

Everyone shares the meat equal splits. Unless a guy has an extra tag he bought then he gets that all to himself, but only after everyone elses tags are used.

If someone helps they get a share,if they want it.Last year I had a full deer in my freezer and I was out with my buddy when he got a deer.I helped drag and dress him but I turned down my share because I had one already and he didn't.He would have done the same if the positions were reversed I'm sure.

This year with our leh group hunt we had 2 moose to share between 3 of us.When I shot mine it was with another guy in our group we did all the work but split 3 ways. When our other group member got his,his brother was with him and helped feild dress and load the moose. All of us skinned it back at camp.Split 3 ways and it was up to him to share his third with his brother.

Limited entry group hunts are the only time we change the rule if you help you get a share.

I've allways split among all the hunters of any group I've been in. This passed Nov. hunt I killed all 4 deer with 7 hunters and gave up my share of the meat to the others as I was going on another hunt with another group.

Being invited to this group there was 3 bucks shot out of 6 hunters and I killed one. The camp leadhand decided to give 2 hunters one deer for a split that way everyone gets a half , well needless to say , but I never got offered any of the share, have not even seen my horns from the buck I shot.

just got back from another hunt and brought home a deer for myself again that I don't have to share , so I guess i'm lucky with this hunt.

I do agree everyone should share with a group that works togeather...BT

We usually share equally amongst our regular hunting group, but only among those present at the time of the kill. But there are always exeptions.

For example, I am the only one who went up for black powder shooting (along with the old man) so the buck I got was ours, and since no one else was even interested in coming up a week early, we kept it. Then the next week during rifle season, another small doe was taken by another hunter. We didnt take any, since our freezers were full of deer and moose.

I think it all comes down to making sure everyone has some game to eat during the winter.

That sounds like communism....oh wait, I see where you are from.:(

I always split with whoever is in on the hunt, not in camp but specifically who I am hunting with. 3 deer this year split 1/2 each one of them, but I also had the option of taking 1/2 of 2 other deer shot by who I was hunting with, logistically it doesn't work out very well once cut and wrapped, so I declined with a thank you.

i hunt alone so everything i tag stays in my freezer but if someone helps hump it out or helps butcher it with me they get a fair chunk i also offer to family when they get skunked

Our traditional deer camp has followed a long tradition of "hunter days" to determine each person's share of the meat. If a guy hunts one day, he gets one share. If another guy hunts six days, he gets six shares. At the end of the hunt, we calculate hunter days (easy to do) and guesstimate meat weight (a bit more difficult, but not that hard after you have been at it for a while). Everyone gets his share according to his participation in the hunt. I don't think you can be any "FAIRER" than that, if "fairer" is a word.

BTW, BEFORE the hunt starts, we have a hunt camp meeting and all of this stuff is discussed, so there are no arguments at the end of the camp.

But when I bow-hunt, my partner and I have an agreement that no matter who shoots, nor who is present when an animal is taken, we share all of the meat equally. Which is a good thing this year, since I have shot a grand total of ONE, compared to his SIX. (For those not familiar with Ontario game laws, we have multiple tags, and party hunting is allowed...)
