Our traditional deer camp has followed a long tradition of "hunter days" to determine each person's share of the meat. If a guy hunts one day, he gets one share. If another guy hunts six days, he gets six shares. At the end of the hunt, we calculate hunter days (easy to do) and guesstimate meat weight (a bit more difficult, but not that hard after you have been at it for a while). Everyone gets his share according to his participation in the hunt. I don't think you can be any "FAIRER" than that, if "fairer" is a word.
BTW, BEFORE the hunt starts, we have a hunt camp meeting and all of this stuff is discussed, so there are no arguments at the end of the camp.
But when I bow-hunt, my partner and I have an agreement that no matter who shoots, nor who is present when an animal is taken, we share all of the meat equally. Which is a good thing this year, since I have shot a grand total of ONE, compared to his SIX. (For those not familiar with Ontario game laws, we have multiple tags, and party hunting is allowed...)
