Shooting a Magpie

This is how I read the original post:
- "I shot a magpie today! Yeah me!"

Instead some of you take it like this:
- "I am a killer with no remorse for killing poor defenceless animals! I stomp on innocent little birds with my boots for fun!"

I don't think the OP did anything wrong here. It was a bad shot. It happens.

I seem to recall anothe CGNer made a bad shot on a moving bear in a thread a week ago and crippled the thing. He had to walk the 300 m to get to the bear before putting it outta its misery. I didn't see anyone jumping down his throat like with this guy.

It's a pest and the OP killed it as quickly as he could!

Hell cows in Halal slaughtering houses die a slower death. Remember that thread?

I feel like buying some of those oversized boxing gloves, you know, the ones the size of a beach ball, I'm gonna sell em to the members who wanna fight the others for stuff like this, after 3 minutes of sparring and near total exhaustion i will sell them over priced gatorade to fund a potential caribou/moose hunt for myself and the lucky other CGN'er I choose as a partner for the trip!!!

I'm not being selfish, I said I would take someone, lol.

The fact that you posted a unethical hunting decision in a forum...and for that you had to post,,,you just made all, hunters, varmint shoters and the majority look bad..for that i hang my head in shame and hope that tomorrow it gets better

LOL. dont you think you are laying it on a little thick?

I never knew there were so many whiners in the cgn hunting forum. He shot a magpie. Who gives a s**t?

Apparently a lot of people do. Would people be cool if I said that there were 15 kittens roaming around my grandma's house meowing because their mothers were hit by a car. And since they wouldn't make it through winter I figure the best thing to do would be to put them out of their misery. But after the 14th one I was really tired and breathing hard. I figured "What the heck, they are just pests. And took the shot on the last one." I don't make a good shot and my .308 blows the kittens jaw off. Not feeling like wasting $0.75 on an animal that is not going anywhere fast I just walk up and step on it's head.

Yeah, it happens. Should I post on here what happened? The bottom line is that most people aren't comfortable reading about animals that suffer. Even for a couple of seconds. It doesn't get us (as a CGN community) anywhere fast with the anti's.

If kevguy felt like he needed to post it. Great. But he should realize there will be a lot of backlash.

To sum up the thread thus far for those of you fortunate enough to not have spent 10 minutes reading the whole thing.

OP shoots beak off of Magpie, stomps on Magpie instead of loading .22 and shooting it again, Half the posters say stomping is no good and posting about it on the net is foolish and makes hunters look bad, other half say it's just a magpie and good for the OP.

For the record, the OP is coming off as a first class douche. Not because of what he did but in the way he is responding to criticism. Some of the others have climbed the high horse and are looking down the long phallic instrument of ethics to condemn him. Ethics are like your ##### -- best shared with those close to you and kept hidden from the greater world (unless you enjoy #### and misery).

I've been unfortunate enough in life to have to deal out a certain portion of brutality to both animals and people. I don't publicly post about most of it and for good reason. Even if I was justified and it was legal doesn't mean it is good to share with the masses. But be your own filter. You'll eventually learn the limits based on the reaction of others ---- or you won't.

I kill magpies (and crows, ravens, feral cats and starlings) when I can. No judgement there. I've made bad shots too. We all do. But unless the OP was attempting to inpart some learning lesson in his description, I can't understand why he would post this escapade and NOT the successful results of his grouse hunt instead. Methinks he wanted to generate a reaction and he's got his wish.

I do construe kevguy's post to Icehunter (post 51) as a veiled and cowardly threat. The mods should just ditch this one.

Yah... But has anyone here ever had a magpie for a pet?... Jebus! Ask a question around here & everyone is focused on a Newb or a troll with a short lived posting life here on CGN!:p:D
If it's legal... I'll pay $75 for a young one (LIVE!!! when I receive it) shipped to me here in sunny onterrible! Will offset homesickness!;) Going down south for the week so if anybody takes me up on the offer I'll be late with a reply....
PLEASE DO NOT SEND ME DEAD MAGPIES... Canada Post will get upset!:D

CGNers Have CGNers for support. Gun owners have enough #### on there plate with politics and anti's trying to take our TOOL's we don't need people hanging around our site, threatening to make unfounded reports on each other, like a desperate ex-girlfriend pushing BS to punish. I would ban this fellow not for what he did to a magpie, but what he has done to our community of BROTHERS in arms as hunters, target shooters and hobbyists. We may not always agree with each other, but if we do not have each others backs, we have nothing.

And everyone who flamed him. They are no better. All the OP did was tell a story. It takes two to tango.
I see no-one flaming the fellow who pulled the duck's head off, everyone laughed about it. No less brutal than a stomp to the head. If I was to criticise him, does he deserve to be banned after an arguement?

I think not.

I'm just sad that this thread went so sideways.

Ok... So send all dead magpies to Captain Paul... He will provide unspeakable pics to original poster and all who supply with a return stamped envelope with a valid home address... He may even show up up at your door....

I'm reading this thread for entertinment from the seat of my dirtbike in the rain waiting for a friend to come jumpstart my truck that's 25 km in the bush. I'd almost be embarrased to be of the same ### and species as some of the whiney old grannys crying about the guys ethics and how he comes across. Here's a tip... It's the Internet, get over it, go do some good for humanity, organize an ethical hunting march. For crying out loud he might not even own a gun or hunt. For all we really know he posted it for fun to ruffle your skirts. Mabey he's an anti, trying to divide us.
Men, or ladies... Wipe away the tears, turn off the computer and find somthing important to do.
