Shorten PAL Approval Times

FML... Just got off the phone, its been 3 weeks +1 day since they signed for the application and STILL not online even. "Try calling back in about 2 weeks sir, we're behind because of the strike and summer holidays".

Seriously... WTF?

Just called again and no joy :( still not in the system.

Informed them that the application was received about 3 weeks ago (I don't have the tracking in front of me). The clerk (who was very nice btw) said to call again at the end of the week and they would 'open a file for me'. Not sure what that means, I'm hoping that it is progress tho.

A quick question, when using the cfc website how you folk entering your birthtown? The label says "City, Municipality or Township you indicated on your Firearms Licence application", so does this mean I enter 'myCity', or 'myCity,myMunicipality', or 'myTownship' or any of the above (I'd like to see the db query it's running ;) ) ?

Thanks.

They finally acknowledged my application and the 28 day cool off period just ended today
they apparently got it on the 08/15, so now there going call me and my references and then bam it should be mailed :D. (But no guns for me since I'm in college and there sucking me dry of my money.) That and I need to find a range that won't break the bank. I live close to newmarket/caledon if anyone can give me any places to look would be appreciated.

Well if you read I can't afford any guns so if it takes till December then no biggy, Not going to be able to start shooting till next august most likely. Why would I get my license then well because it last 5 years and I like to have option in case I win the lottery or get something similar to that.

Just did my interview. Now to get those references in, which is easier said than done given the busy lives we all lead.

As an edit, I am at 36 days so far since the app was received.

One reference confirmed the interview was done today, and awaiting confirmation from the other that she also did it today... after that I am on the back straight waiting for them to finish up and send me the card.

Did the ATT course, no issues... so I am lined up and ready to go... almost... come on CFC.

(Also on day 36...)

If you have the application file number, you and your references can call THEM and offer to have the interview (since your references might not always be available near their phone or be able to receive calls during their work day...)

Update for myself from today...

Application Received on: 2011/08/22

Current Status: Your application has completed initial processing. It is now in progress. Please check the status again at a later date.

No picture, no cash, no 28 day wait.

What he said.

$40 to take the RPAL exam, and that's it. Just have to wait for them to receive my application, do my interview, get my references to call in, and then I get my licence.
Probably will have taken longer to wait for my test results, than it will be to get my licence (hope so anyway).

I plan to rejoin my old range, because it's indoor (warmer in winter months) and they have plenty of rental guns while I wait for an ATT. Also need to find me a gun locker/safe. ;)

Yes!!

They've received it and it's on the website. Will call later this afternoon to check up on it, hopefully do the interview.

My timeline:
Non-restricted course: Aug 13
Restricted course: Aug 14
Application mailed with test results: Aug 15
Application received: Aug 22
Days taken to receive: 22.

So I have been watching and taking note when most of the guys have been mailing in their application and when it goes up online. It looks like they are taking about 22 days from date of recipt to it being posted on the web site.

Let me/us ;) know how that goes because I have an identical time line (well, I sent mine a day after, but it arrived at the same time ;) )...

Oh man... Interesting phone call... Since all the stuff is done, I called the CFO to see if I could get approved on the spot. First she says I have to wait 28 days from 13/09/2011. I said no, that is the date it appeared online, it was actually received by CFC on 18/08/2011 and that is when the 28 days starts from.

Then she says oh, ok. Call us back in 3 weeks... it can take from 3-8 weeks to get approved!

WTF? How is it Alberta can be on the spot but NS is 3-8 weeks for the CFO? Anyone have a better experience of the NS CFO or is this a sign of things to come dealing with the NS office?
