FFFUUUUUUUUUUUU:bangHead:

Sent mine on the 4th and still not online... Qc Is not THAT far from NB.

Should I call?

My last firearms license renewal was initiated using the shortened renewal form.

It took less than a month for the new license to arrive.

I have basic non-restricted and restricted and none of the fancy section 12 grandfathered privileges that allow you to clutter your gun cabinet with hardware you can't take anywhere to shoot.

Canada should go to a paperless US style NICS licensing system where your "firearms license" is your clean record and security check. Printing plastic cards is a waste of resources and an unnecessary infringement by the state upon personal freedoms and privacy.

All that conjugal relationship nonsense on the Canadian firearms license application is an outrageous invasion of privacy. If a person has a conviction for domestic violence it will be on the system and he will be bounced by NICS as a "prohibited person". If he's clean then the state should stay out of his personal business and approve the sale.

Agree!

Hey SP, I was in class with ya. Yes, we wait until the Provincial officer certifies our results and mails them back to us. Then we print our applications and mail the results, applications and everything else in (registered letter) to apply for the licenses.

Did you get the guy (Tim?) for long gun or Sherrie?

Hey dude, I got Sherrie for the long gun. What about urself? I'm hoping this process doesn't take too long.

Nah, I got the cop. He was extremely cool actually, got the break action and pump for review. ID'd some shells, answered some storage questions and 100% later I was outta there. I grabbed the application papers off the RCMP website and need to set my nice camera up to do a proper picture. Lined up my references already too. Still on the fence about sending in the application without the test results. Some guys are saying the CFO office is getting them back in 2-3 weeks. I'm not in a rush but I do want the license in my hands :)

hey guys already have non restricted and applied for restricted ..........done with interviews and everything and called them and lady told me that everthing at CFO so i got the extension number and talked to cfo and someone over there told me that they have all my info and she is going to pass it to her team leader to have a look at it ............Is this normal cuz i heard some guys had aapproval in a day from CFO,,,,,,,,just kind of curious ...........any nice words will help thanks all............

Guys, I just wanna check if I got this right for Bantario..

1) After passing, mail out the application and photo without "proof attached" checked off, registered mail

2) A day after it arrives (if not, then how long?) call to check if it's in the system [basically kick in the pants to make sure it gets into processing]

3) Check in a week later to see if there is any missing info an keep doing that until results come back from CFO

4) Fax in the results from the CFO and call in the next day (???) to see if they'll interview me

5) Tell my refs to call in and get that out of the way

6) Call weekly "to see if there's any missing info" until it's approved?

Am I getting things right? Any issues with the timelines and/or call frequency?

wow, called last week after it showed up online........call next week please, its not scanned into the system yet.

hmmm

called today, call next week please, its not scanned into the system yet.

but today she was more pleasant to chat with. she said that my photo wasnt scanned in yet, otherwise she could transfer me to do interview.......soooo they wanna stare at my ugly mug when interviewing me over the phone?? lol

Mine took 45 days dead-on. I called multiple times to get my application through as waiting on bureaucracy sucks. Twice they let me know they had it but it was "Not in anyones work queue". The officers at the RCMP are pretty apathetic but the nice civilian workers at the Ontario CFO are a ton of help. My main point is that the old saying: "The squeaky wheel gets the oil" is true. Call, Ask, Bother, Question, Harrass and Request away and your application will go through MUCH faster than if you sit at home picking your nuts and waiting. This rule generally applies to anything related to the government.

What's the interview all about?

Mostly a repeat of section C in your application. Several tips, refined from this thread:

1) Make sure you agree on all timelines with your references.. If you say that you've known your ref for 4 years and they say 5, that could also be a red flag.

2) They may ask weird questions like whether you have violent fantasies or talk about shooting kids at playgrounds. Warn your refs to expect them and not to be shocked when they hear the weird questions.

3) You don't like action movies. You like romantic comedies and dramas. Stating that you would apply the minimum amount of force within the confines of the law in order to save your family from a horrible death is likely to disqualify you, so warn your references. Not even if they shoot your dog, club your wife to death and start raping your daughter in front of you. If your references believe that about you, great.. If not.. Find references that do.

Good tips, thanks :) I'm waiting for my results to come back from my safety before I send anything off, but that'll give me time to groom my references ;)

Yeah questing regarding #3 how do you answer to an question involving home invasion? "within the confines of the law", "call the cops and wait"?
pretty sure that going to be one of the question, and answering even a hint of using your gun to scare, hit, shoot will get you on the black list for sure.

Thats what my reference and I are concerned about.

Thanks

No force.. Get out of the house with a cell in hand. Call police. In the absence of that, barricade yourselves in the room and call 911.

While the law technically does allow you to defend yourself (minimum amount of force needed to get you out of the dangerous situation), there are 2 problems with that..

1) Mentioning that you would commit violence under any circumstances (dog shot, wife beaten to death, daughter in the process of being gangbanged by a bunch of AIDS-infected rapists) is almost certain to have you disqualified

2) In case you do really get attacked and have to use force to defend yourself, you are likely to be charged under any circumstances and more likely to be convicted (because a career criminal knows that he should stfu and ask for a lawyer while your typical law abiding citizen doesn't).

Where do you get the FAX number?

I'm asking because I'm sitting on my course right now and will be done Thu night. I already have my gun purchased(well the seller is holding it for me) and can't wait to take it home :D

Cheers,

I had a phone interview yesterday (OCT. 4th) and they then called my references. However, one of my references were not home, and no messages were left on their machine. Will they try calling back? If so, how soon? They have my references cell phone number, why didn't they try calling that? Furthermore, there were no phone calls to my wife, will they be calling her also?
