Shorten PAL Approval Times

From what I understand, no they will not call your wife because her signature is already on the application, and your reference should call in right away or they'll send a letter back to you saying they could not contact your reference.

My Application Timeline

Here is how my application went.

August 20 non, and restricted course
August 22 mailed (rush, registered)
Signed for on August 24th
Online September 16th (22 days)
My interview Sept 23rd
References interview September 26th
Card received Oct 3rd

Total of 40 days (I would have saved time if I would have called sooner)

It was posted in this thread. You might be better off double-checking on their site or even calling them "in order to get their fax number" (squeeky wheel gets the grease). At least one other person confirmed Shalimar's post:

Thanks for the number, I wasn't planning on going through 215 pages of post to get the answer :D

Won't need it afterall, here in NS we get the results of the course right away after finishing the course. So at 17h00 today I should have it on hand. Well that's if I pass the practical that is :bangHead:

Lol, I should have checked your province.. This crap only applies to Bantario.

I didn't go through 215 pages either. I just clicked on "Search This Thread" and entered "fax number". Useful feature

Dough!!! Never thought of doing a search. Now I really feel stupid LOL

Just got home from doing the practical and passed with flying colors....

Paperwork goes out tomorrow but with the long weekend I'll lose at least 1 day!

Cheers,

Is it alright to ask them if they can transfer you over to a interviewer?
or do it indirectly, like stating that your ready to answer questions?

Don't think there'd be a problem to ask to be transferred to an interviewer. "I work full time on a production floor, and am not available on-demand for my telephone interview. Would it be possible to do that interview now?"

My RPAL upgrade application took 4 weeks to appear online since I mailed it in...that said, they posted that it was received on the 16th of last month. I was getting worried that my application had been lost in the mail, because I had forgotten to send it with tracking & signature, and just sent it out by normal letter mail.

Hopefully I'll have my new licence before Christmas :)

Just spoke to CFC on Friday, my licence has been issued. They aren't charging for any licencing until May so as soon as I get my RPAL papers in the mail they will be going out ASAP, I too hope to have all my licences in hand by October.

This is the 25th day since my application process started. Just had my phone interview, and they also called one of my references. Anyone know if they have to call both, or does it depend on the 1st reference or how the personal interview goes?

I never got asked any questions on how I would deal with certain situations, although I know they asked my 1st reference if I had any violent tendencies and did she think I would be a responsible gun owner. My interview was all related to my application.

Application Received on: 2011/09/08

I send in BOTH copies of BOTH the CFSC and CRFSC papers, right? All 4 pages that have been stamped by the CFO?

Don't quote me, but I think you only send in one copy of each and hold on to the the extra copies in case something happens to the originals you send. I seem to remember our instructor telling us this. I hope I am right, because I only sent one copy of each. I am sure a more experienced member will shed some light on this.

My partial timeline:

Passed courses: 8/30
Received stamped copies from Ontario CFO: 9/15
Sent application in: 9/22
Received at CFC: 9/26
Shows on CFC site: 10/14
Payment processed 10/18

Does anyone know the approximate time between initial processing completed and starting the interview process? Also is it the CFC or local CFO that does the interview?

I was wondering the same thing. I think I am going to send in one copy and see what happens. I am hoping to send it in Express post on Monday.

I have only just realized from reading this thread that the references are actually called/interviewed...(I assumed they only did this if there was a particular thing they wanted to look into?)

I have just moved to Canada, and so my two references are from the UK...Does that mean I am really going to be in for a long wait, considering time zones, their ability to dial a foreign number etc?

How hard are they going to try to get hold of my references?

What happens if they cant get hold of them? Do they keep trying or try a few times then let me know?

They don't try very hard to get a hold of them. And when they can't, they send you a letter. It takes two weeks sometimes to draft the letter and then add the mailing time on top of that. I'm pretty sure once a letter is issued, they also give you a time limit (like 10 days or something from date of receipt) to complete the application.

3 weeks or so depending on volume. It was the CFC that did my interview. They then pass the results on to your CFO for final approval (at least in Ontarilol, anyway).
