Shorten PAL Approval Times

Straight up 28 days. Not guaranteed you'll get it issued right at 28 days, that's just the mandatory waiting period. Also, there will be a delay from when the license is 'issued' and when it's mailed and delivered. IIRC printing day for them is Friday, so if you get the 'issued' message on a Tuesday, expect a week's wait at least.

Make sure you do your interview, and get your references to call in as well (after your interview) and it will help things along.

So I called a couple days ago and was told that everything is good, I just have to wait for the 28 day wait period. Well, the website has not changed from completed initial processing and is in progress. Tomorrow is day 28 so I guess I have to call early tomorrow and get on their case until they get it in the mail? I really want to go shopping next week. I'm getting bored with the guns at my range and I want to use my own.

Thanks guys. It seemed like their server was messing up it only did the error thing when I put in right info when I put in wrong info website worked. Huh. Anyway it don't matter I just checked and it's actually working. I must have tried it fifty times in the last week. Lol. It says received on the second. So is it 28 business days or just straight 28 days? Thanks guys

28 calendar days from the date it was received by them. Not the date that it was entered.

You don't have to call again, it won't speed things along any. Like I said, Print and ship day is Friday (as said in first post).

And again, the 28 days is a MINIMUM wait. If they're backlogged, you won't get approved and issued right away either.

Edited to add: You'll likely see it show up online tomorrow, unless your provincial CFO is dragging his heels. If that's the case, call through the CFO office, and inquire to it's status, that will normally give them the hint. :)

AB CFO office told me they print licences daily.
Registration certificates are printed on Thursdays only. So I was told.

Time-line,

-I sent my application and test results on January 15th. (express post)
-It arrived in NB on the 18th of January.
-It showed up online the following week, but said it was received on the 19th.
-February 15th I was approved and should be getting a card in the mail withing the 2 week period.

I phoned once during this time just to make sure the information was correct. From what I understand they did not contact my references. I believe it is because I hold a higher security clearance with a Nexus card. They are doing a fabulous job at CFC. I would just call once to make sure the info is correct. They're are busy enough. I would call again after 45 days if not hearing anything tho. Just be patient and you will get it. I hope this put some minds at ease.

P.S.

I am in B.C.

I sent my application on Feb 03 via Canada Post express, It was delivered and signed for on Feb 06. Still not showing on the web site  Going to a gun show on March 03 and was hoping to buy a pistol BUT my RPAL will not be ready SH*T !!!

Nexus card has nothing to do with it. I assume you just applied for the PAL not RPAL? If you had, your references will be contacted, period.

mralberta, he's in SK. policies may vary between provinces. The information I gave him was from the initial post, and could very well be out of date. Reminds me I need to check my mail tonight....

I called, I sent an email, alway the same answer ! '' We are entering application received mid to late January ! Check back in 5 to 10 days '' Just like if it was a recorded message but from different voices !!

yep i called again today, same response.

They must be really behind or something, its taking a ridiculous amount of time.

Well, I mailed it out on Jan 16 and the records show it was received on Jan 20. That would make today day 28 and:

Current Status: Your application has been processed and your licence has been issued. If you have not received your licence within 2 weeks please contact the Canada Firearms Centre Toll Free number. (1-800 731-4000)

So, I'm guessing I'll get it in the mail next week, unless it doesn't get mailed out today.

Timing (in Ontario):

Jan 7 Completed and passed CFSC
Jan 14 Completed and passed CRFSC
Jan 16 Sent Application via Registered mail to CFC
Jan 18 Canada Post showed arrived at CFC
Jan 26 Application shows received online at CFC on Jan 18
Feb 8 Received stamped CFSC marks from CFO in mail (wife’s came in next day)
Feb 13 Received stamped CRFSC marks from CFO in mail
Feb 14 Faxed marks into CFC
Feb 15 28 Day waiting period met from initial application to CFC
Feb 17 Both wife and myself received personal interview calls on mobile phones
NOW, if my references would only get back from FL soon (actually, they are in on Monday), they will call in on Tuesday and we can finalize the process.
I must say that the staff at the CFC was very courteous, and this entire process has so far been exceeding my expectations in terms of timing.
Hope to have my RPAL by the end of the month......

I still don't know what this whole stamped results thing is about.

I know, its an Ontario thing. From what I gather, there were issues with past Ontario instructors passing or authorizing acceptance to individuals whom actually failed a portion of the testing (or something like that........also heard that some instructors whom were no longer licenced used old testing approval forms, but I really am not privvy to the actual happenings).
SOOO, now Ontario applications need to have the marks stamped before the CFC and ultimately the CFO at the end of the process will authorize.........
