Shorten PAL Approval Times

Thats what i need to know. I'll try calling the call center tomorrow morning if my app isn't approved by then.

Number listed for Chief Firearms Office is (705) 329-5522

My references called yesterday, and today is day 28 of the wait period. Online says:
"Current Status: Your application has completed initial processing. It is now in progress. Please check the status again at a later date. "

Would calling the CFO now be a bit too early and get me in the bad books for trying to push things along?

give it a couple of days, and it will say that it has been issued, and that if you haven't received the pal in 2 weeks to contact them, but it seem to be moving along.

Mailed off my RPAL application on June 24th. It finally showed up on the RCMP website today, saying it was "received" July 3rd. I'll give them a call next week to see if everything is in order. Cant hurt right?

^^Mine was put online yesterday and mailed on the 25th.

I phoned today to offer up any missing info and they said it's all in order. That's it.

They're not overly friendly or helpful over there. I've had better luck emailing with them. The call center seems to be burned out from the same questions.

WTF!?!?

I just got off the phone with the CFO in Orillia about my app and the Supervisor told me that the 28 day waiting period started on the 10th of July !?!?
The RCMP received my app June 21st and i was done with all three interviews on July 18th. She said (very nice officer by the way) that i won't even get it looked at until the 7th or 8th of Aug and be at least the 13th of Aug before i see the license. WTF?!?! Has the policy changed in the last few weeks?? I was always under the impression the 28 days started when the RCMP receives the app. Clearly this isn't so. At least not in the eyes of the CFO.

Oh great. Im in Orillia as well, and mine was received by RCMP on the 22nd. I was hoping to see my online application as approved today.

Guess ill wait and see what happens tomorrow and call the CFO and see if I get the same response as you.

Ya, let me know how you make out. It seems they are now using up the full 45 days to process new apps. Great.:bangHead:

My CFSC results came back rubber stamped today.

Exam was on July 7th, stamp is dated July 16th. 7 day turn around isn't too bad. I hope I can expect the same for my CRFSC results, which would then arrive next Monday.

Interestingly, the postmark on the envelope is dated the 20th. Guess it sat in an office for 4 days waiting to get mailed out.

I don't see that happening but you never know more than likely next week.

To answer the "do they still only print on Friday?" question, the answer is no.

They issued my license on Monday 16th of July and I received it 1 week later on Monday the 23rd of July.

If they only printed on a Friday after the issued it, there is no way I would have it in one business day. They must print on multiple days, or they must have printed it before they issued it. My guess is they probably print on multiple days.

I used the 705-329-5522 phone number for the orillia CFO, and the lady I spoke with was extremely nice. She said it is in, waiting on an officer to look at it and then it should be good to go shortly thereafter. Said to call back on Thursday or Friday if it hasnt yet been updated to check on the status again.

Personally speaking, I WANT them to take their time assessing people. I don't mind waiting, though I'm obviously excited to be entrusted with a firearm for employment. Thank God we're not like the states gun-wise.

Having a fixed waiting period and being arbitrarily slow are very different things. The law requires a 28-day waiting period. This is enforced, but civil servants at the various CFO offices have added arbitrary delays beyond this. These delays are not required by law, and I personnally doubt that they do anything for public safety.

If we must have a waiting period, it should be consistently and fairly applied. There is no excuse for bureacratic delays.

On a side note, you run the risk of being labeled a troll with posts like this. Judging from your post count, you are a very new member. (Being new is fine; I'm a new member too.) You have joined a community which (in general) is sick and tired of civil servants getting in the way of their legal and responsible use of firearms. I don't think that expressing an opinion the way you have is a very polite way to join the community.

No Kidding. For the CFO to tell me the 28 day waiting period started on July 10th when the RCMP received my app June 21st is crap. July 10th is when my app showed up on line and they charged my CC for the app processing fee. This is VERY frustrating.
