Shorten PAL Approval Times

Hey guys,

I'm a newbie here and had a few questions. I completed the CFSC and CRFSC just this past weekend and what I would like to know is if I could mail in my RPAL application to get the process started and then mail in my CFSC/CRFSC results later when I get them. I've read that this process works but I'm not sure... Does it really work? Has anyone tried this process and have any luck? Please let me know.

Thanks.

I just did mine this exact way...well, I faxed my results in when I got them, I did not mail them in.

I waited exactly one week after I passed my courses to mail my app in. I got my results back 2 or 3 days after my app showed up online. Search back a few pages and you can see my posts regarding the timeline.

Hey, Do you know what kind of questions they ask or your references?

They ask your reference how long they have known you, were they forced to sign as a reference, they also ask if you have violent behaviour or fascination with violence also why you want a restricted pal. Make sure your refs know to say its for target practice/joining a gun club. Also tell them to answer yes or no, no jocking around with the interviewer. Its pretty simple takes about 5-10 mins at most

Also, most questions are open ended, "tell me about a time when the applicant thought it was justified to use violence to solve a problem"? Answer , never . "Tell me about a time went the applicant was fascinated by a violent act?" Answer never.

Just an update - application for R-PAL in Quebec : Quebec's Delay is bloody long, but they are processing.

The CFO in Mirimichi received my application (mailed to them by my local police station) on January 11th. Today (March 26th, 74 days later) I finally got my interview call and at least one of my references has been left a voicemail to call them back. I very politely called for updates and to attempt to do the interviews about every 2-3 weeks in between and was always told that they did not do interviews early and that I would just have to wait.

Seeing as I'm not in a hurry, it doesn't bother me at all. But anyone looking to get their R-PAL in Quebec, get comfy 'cause you'll be waiting a while!

Edit: For those wondering what the "interview" is like, it's very simple for the person applying. They confirm your identity and address, confirm your reason for wanting the Restricted license (I volunteered which club I was planning to join but they did not ask), then ask you a dozen or so yes/no questions from the application papers. They're really basic, just things like "have you been convicted of such-and-such?", "have you, in the last 2 years, been through a breakup or divorce?", "Is anybody in your household restricted from possessing or acquiring firearms?" "Have you been diagnosed with depression?", things like that. Ideally, your truthful answer to these is always "no". Then she said thanks and that she would proceed to calling my references. If everything went alright there, it'd be 7-10 business days before my license arrives.

Second Edit: My references completed their interviews, and said that they got the same type of super-simple yes/no questions. As soon as the second reference completed his interview, my application on the RCMP site changed from the "completed initial processing" status that it's had since January, and is now at "Your application has been processed and your licence has been issued."

News from BC!

You are very Lucky, My application was recieved Jan 11th 2013, they called me then my referances Last week; thats when I asked for the extension number and application number just incase my referances missed the call. I had called in much ealier to see if I could have my referances call them and they said no not until they compelte initial processing.

My GF and Buddy did the course toghter - both have already been issued licenses. One two weeks ago and the other just a week ago. Mailed in at the same time.

This whole process is a real PIA... What doesn't make sense to me is why cant we mail in PAL/RPAL application along with our CFSC/CRFSC results once the course is completed? Wouldn't that makes sense? Why do we need to receive our results to then attach to our application and then mail it in back to essentially the same place where we are getting our results from?

If they tell me once you complete your course, your instructor will then mail in your results along with your complete application to RCMP/CFC or who ever, and also the instructor/school should or can help us to ensure that we have filled out the forms correctly and this will take between 45 to 60 days (not more than 60) to get our license... I'm completely fine with that, this ensure we have a definite time frame. But for us to continue contacting them, mailing them a couple of times it just doesn't make sense to me... Also most of you might not agree with me but I wouldn't mind if they would increase the fees on the license from $80 to about $100/$120 as long as we will be getting a faster turn around for our license... We will be spending a few bills or some of us will be spending more on our new toys, so I don't see why we would have a problem in paying $20/$40 more to get our license.... This would also generate extra revenue for them..... Just my thought and like I said some or most of you might not agree with me....

I got copies of my pal couse and rpal challenge right after finishing and mailed them with pal/rpal application. Are you saying you couldn't do that?

No, I don' think you could do that here in Ontario. Over here, after you complete your course the instructor tells you your results and then mails it in to CFC or CFO, they then review it, stamp it and mail it back to you. You could get the results mailed back in as min a week or max 4 to 5 weeks.

That sucks!!

Most people mail in their application then fax in their stamped results when they arrive. As far as I know this is acceptable and seems to be the norm from people I talk to.

Yes, and that's what I'm doing as well. But just the process of waiting for your results to mail it back to them seems redundant...your mailing them back your papers where you got it from.. And I know the results come from the CFC and the application is being sent to the RCMP but aren't these two entities essentially the same?

I did my testing on Feb 24. sent in my application March 4. Received the stamped results back yesterday March 26 and my application just appeared online today. I noticed a lot of people faxed in their stamped results. Should I call CFC first to alert them that I will be faxing my results to them? And also do I write my application number (found on the website to check application) on my stamped results or a separate sheet?

This wait is really getting to me since the local club is starting their new membership sessions soon.

Yes, you should add your reference number on the results it self or add an extra note to it.
