Shorten PAL Approval Times

When i got my non restricted they didnt contact me or my references at all. I checked the status on my application the day after my 28 day wait period was up and it said it was issued. Got it exactly a week later. It took them forever to cash the cheque i sent them though!

Did you wait and send in your application after your stamped test results came back or did you fax them in like most people seem to do?

Applied for my PAL (N/R) and they recieved the application jan 10th, all references ok'd, did my phone interview which went really well, 45 days passed, nothing.... waited 2 weeks, still nothing.... called, "we'd like to advise you that the mandatory waiting period has been changed to 90 days and that your application is now in the office of you provincial CFO were it's now waiting his final approval..."

STILL waiting.... since when is it 90 days now?!?

I don't believe the mandatory can be changed to 90 days by the prov. CFO. My application got there feb 21 and was approved and issued on Friday. I would be elevating your calls.

Has anyone else heard anything about this 90 day waiting period? I sent my PAL application away 3 weeks ago and have checked the website regularly over the last week to see that they've received it but there isn't anything.

I was told a similar thing at the end of February. CFC said that my application was sent to the BC CFO and that it would take them 45 days to complete my application. The CFC was finshed there part just over 30 days.

The RCMP website still says:

Our service standards to process a complete and accurate application are:

  • 45 days, including the 28-day legislated waiting period, for a licence application;
  • 30 days for a registration application.

I hope this isn't the case.... I guess I'll find out once I mail in my paperwork in the next few days...

I believe, but am not certain, that the 28 day mandatory is legislated in the firearms act, so changing it would require an act of parliament. Can anyone confirm this?

As of today my application is sitting at 82 days. Received by Miramichi on January 10.

My last conversation with the CFC said it would definitely be 90 days, perhaps more. The person I spoke to said it is 45 days for the CFC and 45 days for the BC CFO.

I am in the exact same boat as you. It's been 3 weeks for me and my dad, and they haven't even shown as registering it online as having gotten it. I wonder how long it normally takes for them to register it as haven't received it?

This so called 90 day time period is crazy. Why have some recent posters from BC claimed 48 day time frames? Sounds like some agents are having fun at our expense.

I'm definitely at the 28 day mark. Well, 29 days now. The application appeared on their site and my credit card was charged on March 22nd. I called last week to make sure they had the information they needed. Everything seemed in order, but they had also said someone would call me for an interview late last week or early this week. Haven't heard anything yet. I'm figuring I'll call and request an interview tomorrow and get a reference number to have my references call in.

It does sound like one of the current issues they are having is an inundation of application renewals because of a deadline to renew for free, so that has been backing up the CFC. The gal told me they were even getting people renewing when their license didn't expire for another year or so.

Just trying to get an idea, my rpal refs where interviewed last week, and me today, they said it was all good and where forwarding it to CFO, no indication off wait times when i asked............................................Cheers

My app arrived in Miramichi on feb 21, applying for RPAL, along with 3 other apps all in same envelope. Appeared online 3 weeks after, and the last interview was done on 28th of march at 4pm pacific time. By 6 pm I checked on line and it said approved and issued. 1 of the other apps same time line. The other two, interviews done a few days before mine, and they still waiting.

The only difference is our age, the 2 still waiting are early 20's, me and the other app pushing 50.

Thanks for the answer, i wonder if age has anything to do with it? lm pushing the big 50 aswell. Wouldn't surprise me if younger people got more scrutiny, we've had a longer time f^&kup, so it kinda makes sense if your older and squeaky clean it might be faster.................fingers crossed

Yup I think so. The two are my sons, I ref for both and live at same address, but I think they still take longer. Also, having ex-wives I assume would slow things. They worry about that or I am sure they wouldn't ask the questions.

I think it's the CFO's covering their butts. If someone went nutz they can at least say they did a thorough screening and the guy qualified for the license.

When did your arrive out east? Are u online yet? One thing we did is called in right way, did not wait for them to call us for the interviews. Call the 180# and go to ext 2533, and just say you want to do the interview. Speeds things up.

All paper work was sent together registered arrived 18/2/13 went to ''in process'' on line 24/3/13. Called today, one guy took my details and asked if i wanted to do interview on the spot i said yes, got transferred to a lady did that, when i was done they said thats ok and told me that they had already called my refs and the paperwork would be forwarded to CFO. When i asked her approx how long it would take she couldnt give me a time line. Took 23mins inc the wait, well worth it. Will be checking online daily after 6pm!

Stoked.

Mar 1st: application signed as received
Mar 21st: application showed up online
Mar 21st: phoned in and did my interview (the girl wasn't sure if it was ready, but gave it a review and saw nothing was missing and did my interview)
April 2nd: Had my references phone in. They were VERY busy and the phone system wouldn't let them get an operator until after 3PM PST...First reference was told it was super busy but was given a direct extension. Called the direct extension and did the interview. Second reference called the direct extension and did his interview.
April 2nd: a few hours later after the gym I checked my status and it had been updated to "Current Status: Your application has been processed and your licence has been issued. If you have not received your licence within 2 weeks please contact the Canada Firearms Centre"

Now I just have to wait for the mail.

No 90 day waiting period like some people are saying. 30 days from received to issued....probably would have been 28 if it wasn't from the long weekend.

I was very polite and had information ready like my application number (from the website) when I phoned in, and told them I was calling in to do my interview, not asking if there was anything I needed to do but requesting to do the next step in the process. Catching flies is easier with sugar then salt I think. My references did the same as I provided them the application number, how to get through on the automated system, and that they were calling in to do an interview for the application number.

Looks like i was a lucky one because I don't think it could have gone much faster, which is great because the waiting is so hard. I feel for the guys who are getting stalled out. Hang in there guys.

Relatively same time frame as ours but we started calling in as soon as it was online. Probably wrong about the age thing, as I just checked and one of the remaining two is now approved and issued. The last had interviews completed before the rest of us, and is still not online, not even as processing. It appears to be random and sheer dumb luck as to how long it takes. Don't know.
