Shorten PAL Approval Times

Feb 25 Mailed (Registered)
Mar 4 CFC Received
Mar 22 Appeared Online
Mar 28 My interview along with both references was conducted

I called in today (end of my 28 day wait) and was told by the CFC that my application was with the CFO awaiting approval.

Unfortunately because of a higschool fistfight i had to answer "yes" to a few of the questions. I was charged but not convicted. I was granted an absolute discharge. From what i understand, my youth records should no longer be accessible, leaving me with a clean slate.

Does anyone know how much this could delay my application? I live about 10 minutes from the CFO office. Would it be beneficial for me to pay them a visit to help push things along?

Wel we have all had high school fist fights and cops involved, but if it was more than five years, 25 for me, you don't need to newer yes. If it was less than 5 years, yeah could slow things down.

It really is amazing to see such a difference in wait times. I have to believe that one's personal history and past play a huge role in the process. Some people have absolutely nothing while others have something. I think those that have a squeaky clean past and are in their mid-late 30's and up probably have a faster process then those younger or with certain hiccups on their background.

I'm pushing five weeks now just waiting for my stamped CFSC results. Now I regret not sending my PAL app ahead of time. Only consolation is I won't have much time for shooting in the next couple of months so hopefully my PAL comes through just in time for the end of black fly season. :)

I just called the CFC, there was no mention of 90 days this time. I am thinking that is just a way for the CFC to put off constant calls from the BC folks waiting on applications. Apparently the BC CFO's office is extremely busy and there is no way to speed up the process. I just need to keep waiting and it will get done when it gets done.

Finally got all of my required signatures. Off to the mail-box on the way to work to get this ball rolling. Just the non-restricted so hopefully things all go smoothly (went over the papers a dozen times just to be sure I didn't miss anything)!

Quebec CFO seems to be slow as well, on my 47th day of waiting since they received the application...

Wow, I know we do things backwards in Quebec, but they are quick to fine businesses for not having french signage, but it could take them a month and a half for some paperwork. Simply amazing..

Here's the timeline from start to finish:

Feb 17 - CFSC + CRFSC Challenge
Feb 24 - Application mailed (registered)
Feb 28 - Delivered to Miramichi
Mar 05 - Called CFC to confirm receipt
Mar 19 - Application appears online
Apr 03 - Interview
Apr 04 - Reference interviews and licence issued.

The process took a total of 36 days from when they received my application until it was approved (47 days from the CFSC/CRFSC exams).

All of my dealings with the CFC have been very positive; the representatives were all professional, courteous, and friendly.

PAL and or RPAL?

The above timeline was for my PAL/RPAL.

Edit: I forgot to mention that I was a new applicant, so it's for both.

For my pal/rpal it was 30 days from when they received it to posting license issued on their site. Almost the same as you and all my dealings with anyone from CFC or CFO was the same as yours. I hope it continues as such.
