Shorten PAL Approval Times

My application is in process, going to get my references to call in as I am to do the interviews. But I did get a letter from the RCMP stating "We have reviewed your application and found that you did not included proff that you have met the safety training requirements, as required under section 7 of the firearms act" So I would like to try and check the status of my course results, to get that part done.

She just called me back and left a message saying they are around 4 weeks. So hope to get those results this week!
 
Question for the members that send in the application without the certified results. Do you Send both stamped original forms or just one copy? Also can you fax it to them?

39 days from the day they received the application to the day I received the licence in the mail.


Now I dont feel quite so silly about having payed in full for 2 firearms, plus accessories, before I even had a licence lol. Grizzly 12.5 and SR22 should be arriving next week.

My pal recieved feb 28th april 15th;l intial process finished in progress check at a later date... is it buissnes days or 7 day week they count

Wanted to share my experience. It took about 4 months for my PAL to come through. I am new to Canada and my procedure was a bit different in the fact that I needed more stuff and had to get some info from overseas. Anyhow I phoned them every few days to make sure my app was on track because I couldn't check online because of mis-spell of my home town. But I strongly believe that if I hadn't phoned them then I would still be waiting as they told my over the phone that they need to see my police background report, something that states that I was out of trouble in previous country of residence at which stage my reply was its attached with my application. A short pause later they said you are approved. So yeah just my experience.

PS it took a week to arrive to Sask and it was restricted PAL.
 
Update to my Pal Status. My application was recieved Jan 11th 2013, they called me then my referances March 13-March 15th, Called in today and was told my Application has been sitting in surrey for a month waiting for the CFO to review it. That it would "likely be another month but could happen any day" Then also way told that if its not Done by June I could then be put through to the CFO.

This is horrible! PAL or rPAL?

Wow that's terrible, I'm from B.C and people from B.C seem to have been getting theirs rather quickly lately. Why would they tell you it could be a month when it's already been four? It might be worth it to visit the office in surrey..

My RPAL application is probably languishing in the same stack as yours. It was received on Jan 24th and has been with the CFO since Feb 28th. I wonder if some of the wild variance in turn around times depends on which individual officer's desk your app ends up on.

I also wonder how much of it has to do with PAL vs rPAL. It seems the majority of the quicker processing times are those only applying for a Non-PAL whereas the rPAL's seem to be the crap shoot. Either way, total BS waiting 4 months and then being told it could be another 1 month or longer. That is flat out ridiculous. There has to be something a person can do or somebody to call in a situation like this. Waiting 6 months to get a PAL or rPAL is garbage.

I got a letter directly from the RCMP stating that I was missing my course results and it states that I can fax the results once I get them with the letter they sent.
If you have your Application Number I would just put that on the cover page...
The fax number on the letter from the RCMP in Miramichi is 1-800-411-0622
 
This doesn't look good for me having sent my application in early March, I thought my wait time was crazy but it looks like I'm just getting started here... bureaucracy...
 
Sorry to cut in—my RPAL has been issued (first time license holder). I tried to call in to get my PAL number but the rep told me they cannot give it out over the phone. I thought I remember reading that others were able to get their license information before receiving the physical card in the mail. Any one have anything to contribute regarding that?

It seems some provinces do and some do not; B.C. definitely does not.

My timeline is similar, received January 10, intereviews February 12, then off to the BC CFO blackhole. Its pretty frustating. If I could do it again I would probably apply for my PAL. Get that then send in application for the RPAL. Might be quicker.

This was my thinking. That is why I only did my Non-restricted. I am only interested in a shotgun and .22LR rifle to start out with so I figured I would see if I could cut down on processing time by only applying for my Non-PAL. I will absolutely be going for my rPAL in the future but everything I have read an been told leads me to believe it can, but not always, be quite a pain in the ass and can take as much as 6months if you really have bad luck. No thank you. I will take my chances with the Non-PAL and hopefully I am target shooting at my local range during the summer months.
 
Mine is just a PAL! The two other people I took the PAL Course with have already recieved the licenses a month ago. Nothing out of the normal on my application either.
