Shorten PAL Approval Times

Called at 9 sharp. Turns out I'm a complete idiot and forgot to sign at the end of the application. I looked it over twice and got my brother to look it over as well to make sure I didn't miss anything. Now I've got to wait for it to come back and sign it and re-send it. I asked and luckily this doesn't re-start my waiting period.

Who does the interviews? The rcmp place that you call for questioning the status or the cfo for your province? I called the canadian place and they said they have my application and the interviews are done by the cfo and I can't call them, that they will call me.

I sent my application March 15. I finally called Canada Post to inquire about why the registered letter hasn't reached it's destination yet.
they are now investigating and will try to trace my letter, what a joke. I mean, it could have been anything else, but it had to be my application with all that info and signatures and stuff.
I hope they find it. :(

Here's the timeline from start to finish:

Feb 17 - CFSC + CRFSC Challenge
Feb 24 - Application mailed (registered)
Feb 28 - Delivered to Miramichi
Mar 05 - Called CFC to confirm receipt
Mar 19 - Application appears online
Apr 03 - Interview
Apr 04 - Reference interviews and licence issued.

The process took a total of 36 days from when they received my application until it was approved (47 days from the CFSC/CRFSC exams).

All of my dealings with the CFC have been very positive; the representatives were all professional, courteous, and friendly.

Apr 12 - Card arrived!

That's a bummer dude. I've had that happen to me a few times with Canada Post. Hopefully they will fix that for you.

Had my interview Wed, one of my references called in Thurs and did his interview. My other reference has not done his yet. If I get it by early May, I'll be happy.

In BC. non restricted PAL

March 4: received (certified)
March 21: appeared online saying more information required
March 22: called to ask about the information, and cleared up one question. status immediately changed to processed and in progress
April 4: status says processed and issued.

no interview or references called.

exactly 31 days, including easter stat holiday, from received to issued. now just to wait for it to come in the mail

licence arrived in the mail today. Took exactly one week from issue to arrival

39 days from the day they received the application to the day I received the licence in the mail.

Now I dont feel quite so silly about having payed in full for 2 firearms, plus accessories, before I even had a licence lol. Grizzly 12.5 and SR22 should be arriving next week.

Congrats, Mike. 39days is an amazing time frame. I would be happy if my time line is in or around 60. I would be completely stoked if I can report back with the same type of time.

it seems to be a bit of a crap shoot on a few things, but it generally seems (for BC anyway) the times have been getting quicker over the last 4 months down to about the 6 week time range.

my buddy jeffhaut on here (we were one of each others references), took the same CFSC course, mailed application on the same day, showed up online the same day, called to provide additional information the same day, changed from processing to in progress the same day... except my application went to issued with no interview or reference calls, and his stayed at in progress until he called in 4 days later and requested his interview, and his references werent called, and called in ourselves a couple of days after that. so who knows how long his would have taken if he didnt call in.

Feb 21st - Sent regular mail (probly should have sent registered, didn't seem to be an issue)
Feb 27th - Received
Mar 21st - On Website
April 2 - Called in for my interview
April 5 - All interviews done, issued
April 12 - Arrived in the mail!

Updated. All in all, not too bad, 7 weeks total from mailing to receiving the RPAL license. I was expecting at least another month or so, but seemed to fly through pretty quick. Now just for the LTATT :)

They will give you the rpal number so you can order online? That's awesome, mine was issued today I will try that myself.

Took exactly 31 days to issue now just waiting for the mail to arrive.

Application received 2013/03/19
appeared online today (2013/04/13)
My mandatory 28 days are nearly up, so I'm going to phone in after they are! Awesome!

British Columbia, Non restricted

Mine was received the exact same day, who do you call back into? The cfo for your province? or the canadian firearms numbers? I called the firearms number and she said it was up to the CFO now to do the interviews and paperwork.

In BC they will usually not give your License number out over the phone, you will likely have to wait for the card to arrive in the mail...at least that was my experience. :(

The quickest way to have an LTATT issued is to call the CFC and apply, do not mail or fax paperwork it just gets stuck in a pile somewhere. You can scan and email or your range membership to them and ask them to email your LTATT to you, it should come through in a couple of days and your license number is on your LTATT :D

Oh and there are 2 other things you will end up waiting for...the transfer of registration of your restricted firearm and then once you've picked it up you can only admire it in your own home until the Registration Certificate shows up in the mail, then you can take it to the range. Annoying I know, but those are the hoops they make us jump through!

Nice! Thanks for the info Karma.

Yep, there definitely is. Call 1-800-731-4000 ext 7514...leave a message on the woman's voicemail and she should get back to you with the status of your certificate. Just to be clear, this is for your proof of completion of the course, not for the PAL itself.

Just curious - that number is for the CFC is it not? I thought your tests were sent to the CFO? Then the CFO sends them back. I did call this number and extension and left a message, hope it works.
My application is in process, going to get my references to call in as I am to do the interviews. But I did get a letter from the RCMP stating "We have reviewed your application and found that you did not included proff that you have met the safety training requirements, as required under section 7 of the firearms act" So I would like to try and check the status of my course results, to get that part done.
