Shorten PAL Approval Times

I had my interviews completed Oct.24 and my online status still says completed intial processing.... I called today and they told me my application was sent to Orillia for the final stages. 46 days now. Don't understand, what's the hold up for them to issue my license? Anything else I can do to give them a little push?

Hi there
Please see my posting #615 above.
Were I you, I'd call them tomorrow and ask if there's anything "more" they need..........

Two pieces of information that I thought were interesting:

- the agent told me that the 28-day period started on the day that it showed up on their web, which I know is wrong but did not try to correct him. Am I correct to say that the wait period starts when they have RECEIVED my application, as discussed many times in this thread?

- the agent said that they cannot give me my PAL number over the phone, and that it is something they NEVER give out. Should I call again on the 28th day and ask to be transferred to my provinces' CFO directly? I'm hoping to catch some pre-Christmas sales by some of the online vendors. I'm in BC by the way.

Call back and talk to someone else who knows what they are talking about.
Section 5 of Regulation SOR /2004-274 to the Firearms Act provides no licence can be issued until 28 days have elapsed from the date the application is made (unless the applicant has an FAC or POL). The application is made when it is delivered to the CFC, not several weeks later when they get around to processing it.

Call back on day 29 and talk to BC CFO, they will give you your PAL number but only after the licence has been issued.

once they send it to the province wait a week then call in. they well then route you to your CFO then just nicely ask whats the hold up.. i left a message cause nobody answered. they got back to me within an hour and issued it...

i called in on day 60 i beleive so guy up there on day 50 could give it a go

OK that is not helpful advice.
His application has been approved. It is the BC CFO that has approved it, and now the CFC are just waiting for the 28 day period to expire prior to issuing the licence, why would he wait until day 50 to call??????

I believe he was referring to danv's post. He was the one with 50 days. I'll try and contact the Ontario CFO tomorrow if nothing changes in my status.

I've already called a bunch of times now, pretty much once a week since it showed up on their website. Every time they tell me everything is good and it's just waiting to be approved.

Call and ask to speak with the Provincial CFO office and ask them.......

I called today and spoke with a lady at the CFO. She said she would try to get my application looked over by someone today or Monday.

Good on you. That's a positive sign (better than having been given an excuse that they're understaffed or overwhelmed or ........)

I must say that whether CFC or CFO, I have found the attitude of all those with whom I've been in contact to be very courteous, cheerful and extremely helpful.

I sent in my application by express post on: 2010/11/02
Application Received on: 2010/11/05

Current Status: Your application has been processed and your licence has been issued. If you have not received your licence within 2 weeks please contact the Canada Firearms Centre Toll Free number. (1-800 731-4000)
Exactly 28 days!

Thank you, calalta!

So just to clarify is it acceptable to fax the test results into the CFO or does it have to be sent in hard copy? Just want to figure out the protocol so the lady is eligible for her PAL next Monday.

my paperwork was received at the CFC on dec 1st, still not showing in the computer as in process. we'll see how this goes.

Hey Everyone!

quick question (and one that might have been answered somewhere in these 64 pages, if so, sorry)

I have had my PAL for about a year now, and just passed my RPAL course today,

All i want to know is if i still have to wait the 28 day waiting period, if i am upgrading from PAL to RPAL?

Thanks to all!
