It's NOT a mad, mad, mad, x9, mad world
I wrote the following story last night.
This Glorious Monday morning I called CFC to check if my PAL had been ISSUED WITH A WRONG EXPIRY DATE (2016) or if I had heard it wrong.
It turns out that since my 2010 birthday had been in October, the five-year validity for the POAL starts from my NEXT birthday in 2011 (2011+5 = expiry 2016.
Quite a load off my mind.
Let the story below be an example for some people wqho might worry that their PAL expiry date is wrong, breathe a sigh of relief.,
Mon 06 Dec
=======================================================
So, those who have been following (more or less) my tribulations will know that, finally, my RPAL was approved and issued on Monday 29th of November and, as per the cognoscenti, the plastic does not get printed until the following Friday (3rd of December).
So' I'm keeping my dealer in Kingston in the know about the stages of the saga. He tells me that he can ship me my handgun if he has the RPAL number and expiration date.
So I very innocently inquire with the CFO if my RPAL gets mailed to me straight from Miramichi or does it come back to me via the CFO. The CFO replies very nicely that I should be receiving my RPAL number such and such very soon.
The CFO has already given me more info than I even asked so I call the CFC and ask what the expiry on my PAL number such and such is and she tells me that it's on the anniversary of my birthday in 2016. Great. I thank her and email my dealer and he starts the Transfer and registration process and
he will not ship it until I can confirm that I have a) my plastic PAL in hand and b) the ST-ATT
Yesterday Saturday (why can't the Government offices we deal with work weekends???????????) I'm thinking of the new girl I'll be getting (A SA RoughRider in .22 cal) when I start thinking, "Shouldn't the expiration date on the PAL be five (not six) years? 2015 not 2016?"
And of course I can't contact Miramichi until tomorrow, Monday.
I'm pretty sure that I heard "2016". I wrote it down including day and month (which I should have known anyway as being my birthday).
Moreover I emailed my dealer with "Expiration date is dd mmm 2016"
and he sent in the request (as far as I know with 2016). He didn't catch it nor did I. I only thought of it yesterday, Saturday.
Now If
a) CFC made a mistake and issued a PAL valid until 2016, that PAL would look very fishy to any official who would be looking at it, (and shouldn't a mutli-million dollar computer NOT print "valid until 2016" if date of issue is 2010?)
and of course
b) IF the PAL was issued correctly (until 2015) but the Dealer's Transfer/Registration request went out with 2016, I would have to wait until I actually get it and then ask the CFO (showing them scans of the plastic PAL) that 2016 needs to be corrected to 2015.
And if the TN number/registration number needs to be changed to reflect a correction to 2015, .? What a mess.
Tomorrow seems so far away.................
