Shorten PAL Approval Times

Whats wrong with including the originals a copy will always be available

Never include the originals of the test results.. (as has been said many times before) and if in bantaripo.. send the app in w/o them and write on it that the results will be faxed when received back from the CFO.

Dont worry about it man one copy is always held by the people where u did u course just incase u need it so no need to panic

What did gun owners do to the Ontario CFO to piss him off so much haha.

I can confirm the 28 day thing. Application was received in NB on May 20th according to the ExpressPost tracking, showed up online on June 16th with a received date of May 20th. Calling tomorrow to make sure it's all good and hopefully do interview.

You wont have to do any interview, likely. I called in and they only asked for 1 reference to call in, no other interviews, change of policy i guess. I got rpal.

I think our instructors said the copies were destroyed due to privacy compliance, however they keep on record if you "passed" or not, which is what they said was important....

One way to shorten things up is to send the app in 4 weeks before you take your course. (that gets the 28 day clock started while you are waiting for your course date rather than having it start after everything has been sent....saves 4 weeks from what i can see) You may get a letter saying your Course report is missing and giving you a fax number to forward it to. After you fax the course report it's pretty quick ......or at least it was for me (license issued 3 days after I faxed the R course report in)

I don't understand. You send an application before sending in your exam results? How does that even work?

I'd suggest being careful with this.

Did you check the box that stated you have completed the course?
You also would have signed the declaration that all information is true.

You really don't want to give them another excuse to decline.

Not necessarily.. and my tester is the one that trains the others and she is the source of this info. Better to be safe than sorry for this w/o any doubts esp given the sheer BS involved with the entire firearms act

Very true and that is why I do not suggest sending the app before even challenging the tests etc.. not only would that constitute a lie on an official form it's foolish in many ways (what if you don't pass? etc etc)

I did this on the advice of the lady I spoke with at the Canadian Firearms Centre. I checked the box that I was applying for the PAL with the R endorsement, did NOT, repeat NOT fill in the box stating that I had taken the R course or the date completed and attached a note stating "Sheduled to take CRFSC on June XX.....course report to follow." I did include the CFSC report for the non restricted test that I had passed that day. In her words "This will allow the 28 day waiting period to go by while you are waiting to take your R course and save you time"

As it turned out I got the form letter on June 6 (the day the R course started) stating that they had started initial processing and documentation (CRFSC report) was missing. It asked me to send it in by mail or fax before Sept 15 in order to keep the application active. This was as predicted by the lady I spoke with.

I passed the R test on Sunday June 8 and faxed the report on Monday. By Wednesday I had my license issued.

"Sheduled to take CRFSC on June XX.....course report to follow. <-- this is what makes all of the difference with that note though. And your circumstance for the 2 courses being separated is not always the norm.

I would not suggest doing the same as you did for most none the less unless they have some strange circumstance such as happened in your case. Too many chances for something to be screwed up and we all know the CFOs pounce on any chance they can to be #######s

As far as I know the courses/challenges are always run separately in NB. Provincial DNR runs the CFSC and hunter safety courses. The NB Community College system delivers the R course (and they are quite infrequent).

What? Holy hell that's retarded!

Ah well I shouldn't be too surprised.. given the other massive list of ####ing stupid aspects of what we deal with UGH

Hey guys,

I live in Quebec, and sinc the past 2 weeks my application has been in "processing" status online. So I called in to see if anything was missing and the guy told me that there is a form that I need to bring to my police station so that they can fill it out...?? What is this about? They said that they mailed me the form on June 11 last week...

BTW, I'm applying for an RPAL.

Que is a disaster unto itself sadly... but someone here I'm sure will know more details than I do.. other than your moronic "law 9"

Give it a day or so and I'm sure others can help you.

Yeah...you can say that again. Law 9 has nothing to do with the PAL process though...it's just as stupid course you have to pay for before being able to shoot at the rangr if you have an RPAL. Costs about 40 rnds of match grade 308 lol. I'll wait for others to chime in.

Daaahhh....got it. Since I'm applying for RPAL, I have to bring a special form at my local police station, so that a cop can fill in my info (name, adress...) and his info, and then they mail that to the RCMP in Miramichi. That's how it is in QC.

Goddammit. Yet another 2 weeks lost because of this stupid form and its time in transit. Alas, I was able to download the form and not have to wait for it in the mail...

Fax it to the CFC to speed it up

Law 9 = stupidity

However it will remain in effect until it is challenged in court (and to win of course).
