Shorten PAL Approval Times

Can you buy in store with just number, or online only?

All online companies I have dealt with (3) have required me to send a scanned copy of my PAL.

I guess we shop for different things at different stores, but my first 3 online purchases (from 3 different stores) didn't require a scanned copy of my PAL, and just the number. Two were for R's, the other an NR.

Final Update....Online status changed to Completed and license issued exactly 28 days from the day they received my PAL/RPAL application. Just waiting on the mail now. Super fast.

So today my status changed to
Current Status: Your application has completed initial processing. It is now in progress. Please check the status again at a later date.

I called in to see if they wanted me to have my references call in and the guy said no, your file has been sent to the Montreal Officer and he will contact them..

I see lots of people saying they had people call in and it worked .. could it be for only other than Quebec ??

Thanks

For those of you who have received your license, could you please answer a quick question: Is it mailed regular post or do I need to sign for it?

I'm heading out of town for a couple weeks and I'm guessing it will show up while I'm away.

Hey guys,

I might as well chime in.

Had my PAL for nearly 20 years and decided to go for the RPAL

Jan 25 - Mailed application via Xpresspost
Jan 27 - Delivered to Miramichi
Feb 03 - Called to confirm delivery & told only processing until Jan 20 & not to call back until I see a charge on my credit card.
Feb 15 - Still no charge on card

Will update as things progress

Ryan

Renewals go much faster than initial licenses. Even if you had a NR license already, adding RPAL seems to take as long as an initial license. My friend took 6 weeks to get his license from the Date the CFP received his application til the date he received his license. That was 3 months ago.

RyPal - I would call again, or check on-line. Mine (RPAL upgrade) was received on January 27 as well, showed up on-line yesterday. I faxed them my course results (yeah, Ontario), and had one of my references call in. Called them back to ensure they had everything they needed from me, which they did. Now just need to wait the clock out - 28 days next Friday (fingers crossed).

Credit card charges sometimes take a few days to appear.

Hey chefboubou I called again today to ask what's happening and if I can have my references call in and again I was told no and that they will be contacted by the officer.. Also said I would get a call myself when it's my turn... I have a feeling this will take a while.. Maybe a Québec thing.. Guess I'll sit back and wait more time to save money for something good..

Crankypunk, when was you app received at Miramichi? My RPAL app was received on Jan 26... still no news from the SQ but I'm still within the 28-day waiting period.

So what happened in my case was that I sent in my PAL request (been sitting on this for a year) and I decided to get my RPAL that same week so I passed the exam and called them to see if they received my request since I wanted to add the RPAL to it.. The person on the phone was telling me there might be delay because of the weather there and literally 5 mins later someone from there called me back saying they have my files and I explained that I wanted to add RPAL .. she then sent me by mail (she did not want me to fax her anything) what was missing to add my RPAL request. I got all the paperwork and mailed it back and then about a week after my status changed to in progress instead of awaiting extra information.

Official date received when I log in to the site is Jan 11 2017

Application Received on: 2017-01-11

Current Status: Your application has completed initial processing. It is now in progress. Please check the status again at a later date.

Gents - don't ask them if they want your references to call in. Of course they're going to tell you "no", as they want the process to work at their pace.

Go to the online site and get the reference number for your application. Have one of your references call in, tell them that they are a reference for application number #########X (whatever your number is), and they should do the interview right then and there. Takes 5 minutes, according to my reference that called in. Only one reference needs to call, and you personally will not need to do an interview (unless you answered 'yes' to any of the background questions on the application, or you have skeletons in your closet that they found out about during the their background check on you).

Sometimes you gotta gently force the issue.
