Shorten PAL Approval Times

Mailed May 8th - mailed regular - probably shouldn't have
nothing on line yet ..
so based on what I'm reading, something should show up soon as typical mail time seems to be a week.
so May 15th - plus 30 = June 15th ish... I hope... getting a tad on the anxious side.

Update -
IN progress now - says received June 15th - today 1st day up
I called in and will now get references to do so :)

If you live in a province that requires range membership and are getting a restricted provision on your PAL and have immediate plans to buy a restricted firearm; When you see that your license has been issued in the online portal call your provincial CFO office and ask for your firearm license number and the email address/fax number to send your range membership to for confirmation. They might comment about you not purchasing firearms until you receive your card but just tell them it's about range confirmation. You can shave a few days off the transfer process while your PAL is being mailed out as it takes at least five business days for them to process emails depending on your province.

If you are a first time restricted buyer they will send out a form letter asking for documentation to verify you as a target shooter. You might be able to do this off the application number as well but I would suggest calling your provincial CFO about that.

June 19th: Called the toll number and was told my application is still with BC's CFO and if they need anything "they'll" call me. Also told to call back in a few weeks as usual. Apparently they also keep record of how many times you call and ask about the application status as the woman who answered with a slight attitude made it clear that I was pestering them somehow by asking about my business. This wait game is starting to eat at me lol.

If it's with the provincial CFO the CFP office has nothing to offer you on the status. Call your provincial CFO office.

What provinces require a range membership?

The licence came in the mail yesterday, as I had predicted from reading this thread. Takes 4-5 business days from the day it's issued online to the day you receive it (for Ontario at least).

In Ontario.

May 1 - mailed regular no tracking
May 8 - received (as per what I found out later online)
June 9 - showed up online
June 9 - cc charged
June 12 - phoned in, was told to have 1 reference call in
June 12 - reference called in
June 13 - called to see if anything else was required, they said no and to just wait
June 15 - logged in online to see: licence issued and mailed out

Took exactly 45 days, just like they said!

What provinces require a range membership?

AFAIK, every province other than Ontario requires proof or a statement of purpose. Some provincial CFOs will accept intents to join a range while others will request proof of membership. When you call your provincial CFO to get your license number, ask them their policy.

Where do you get the number of your local ? Or is it automatically routed there when you dial the main number

They will transfer you if you call the main CFP number. You can also do a Google search on contact info for CFO offices. I'd link direct but many of the boards that have them collected don't like hotlinks.
