Shorten PAL Approval Times

Mines been in the mail since last wednesday so I'm hoping it shows up this week! It was mailed right on day 28! Just waiting for Canadapost to put it in my mailbox so I can go straight to the gun shop!

WHere you off to? Island outfitters? I've always wanted to know what there is in Victoria for gun shops.

Yeah Island outfitters and Wholesale outdoors in Nanaimo and probably a few more in between that I dont know about.

Seems like Island outfitters and the EE on here are going to be my best friends

Calendar update

Exam dates (Ottawa, RA Centre: 02-03 october.)
My PAL application was online 24sep.
Still waiting for CFO stamp (which CFO advised me was mailed out on Friday the 12th).

Calendar
Today Wednesday the 176th
Date my application shown as received online 24sep
Tests nr and r-pal passed 02-03oct

CFO tells me my papers mailed on Friday the 12th.

Date my test results returned stamped from cfo on ?? ??? (sometime this week 15 to 19 Nov?)

today - 24 sep (application received and online) = 54 days
today - 03 oct (exams passed) = 45 days

Just waiting to check mailbox at end of working day. I live alone so there's nobody home to check my mailbox and call (when stamped results received)

It will take roughly 2 weeks to actually show up online so do not worry.

Between now and then Id just wait out and hope they call. If the 28 day waiting period is about to end, I would call in, but there is no point calling in before then.

I see. Thanks. The only reason I asked about calling is that in the very first post of this thread it was suggested to call in after the application has been delivered so that it will "kick things off", otherwise it just sits on a desk - that's my intrepreation of the post anyway, correct me if I'm wrong.

The waiting game is not fun! Espeically when it's the holiday season and there are sales all over the place! :(

Do not despair

Your 28 days do not begin when your application is posted online, but from the day that it was received at Miramichi.

And yes, you Westerners are the envy of us here in Ontario.
You get your results immediately. Ours have to go to the CFO
for a looooooooooooong visit.

I would call on Friday and very innocently say you're surprised that your application was received on the 17th but that you don't see it online.
They'll tell you to be patient, that it will show up (and the odds are that it will be online within a day or two).

I agree with 3strokes 100%.
The whole point of this thread is to show how to shorten the approval time and there are many posts on here from people who discovered that it works.
If you want to just sit around waiting that is fine but if you are willing to take the initiative and call in you will get it processed faster.
There is a lot of good info in this thread but now that there are 500+ posts it is too long to read.

Well another day down and nothing in the mailbox. Hopefully by friday... I can't wait another week! Haha oh well... Either way when it shows up I will be a happy camper and be out shooting!

I called in and did my interview and got my references to call in as well. The govt is painfully slow at the best of times, especially when it comes to firearms. Tomorrow is day 28 for me, I phoned today and the provincial CFO said the would give me my Rpal number over the phone. That's good because I have a 9mm and an ar-15 on layaway. All they needs my number, woohoo!

How long did you have to wait before calling in to inquire about it? Can you tell us your timeline of events from start to finish? Thanks! :)

They received it on October 22, it showed up a couple weeks later online. I called in as soon as I saw that and they said it's online but hasn't been 'scanned' into the system. They told me to try back every couple days to do my interview. I called a couple days later just 'checking' on it and I asked if I could do my interview, she said yes an just transferred me to that department.

They asked me the exact same questions as on the application, took 5 minutes. As soon as I hung up, I called my references and told them both to call in. They phoned in and did their interview, that was a couple weeks ago. I called a couple days ago and they said I was approved and am just waiting for my mandatory 28 day waiting period to be over. I called today and asked to talk to the BC CFO. I asked them if they would give me my Rpal number over the phone tomorrow after my 28 day window was closed, they said sure, no problem. It feels like f$$kin Christmas :) , ordering me some guns tomorrow and 2000 rounds of ammo!!

Sorry for the formatting I'm in bed on my iPhone ;)

I've followed these instructions, I'm in Ontario and sent in my application for PAL/RPAL in without waiting for the exam results attaching a letter stating results will follow and to contact me if they have any concerns. I also sent it as registered mail and see that Canada Post has successfully delivered the package. Will let everyone know how it goes. I'll wait till 9am then call in to inquire about my app.

Does anyone know if they have a fax? Will they let me fax the results in?

I have two faxes for them
613 825 297 and

I'm still waiting for my results (mailed to me on Fri the 12th)

Buying firearms

Yes it can be done with the number only but I understand from a few other posts in several threads that the transfer (even from dealer to individual) is faster if the dealer has a photocopy or a scan of both sides of the PAL/R-PAL.

Is it faster by the amount you would wait between between getting your number over the phone and receiving the ACTUAL CARD? I dunno, I believe it's a cr@p shoot.

Keep on them....d:h:

Mine was received Oct 6th, Test results faxed about 2 weeks later, then interviews, licence in my mailbox Nov 15th. I had called in for my licence # so I could purchase in advance of getting my physical card in the mail. If they give you hassle about giving you your PAL number over the phone, tell them you need it for a range safety course you are taking this coming weekend so you can join your local club. That's what I did, I really was taking a course though, I am not condoning misleading the CFO by any means....

My "addiction" is now in full swing!

So far:
S&W 686-6 Performance Centre - Home in Safe (ATT took only 4 days!)
.44 Mag Desert Eagle - Shipped and watching tracking info daily
.22 GSG 1911- Shipped and watching tracking info daily
9mm Sig P226 Elite Stainless - on special order, no ETA yet :bangHead:
.45 ACP Ruger P345- Soon to ship

And it is only Thursday! I have been busy supporting our advertising vendors (when they have stock on the item I am looking for) and all the vendors I have dealt with have been great.

Maybe tomorrow is AMMO shopping day...

Just waiting for my LTATT now.

Two hurdles passed, now for the rest

Keep on them....d:h:

..... tell them you need it for a range safety course That's what I did, I really was taking a course though,

You're a bit lucky. At my Range Safety Course, no licenses were needed
(and theoretically I could keep shooting for a full year without a license,
as long as I'm under the direct supervision of a licensed member.)

.22 GSG 1911-

That will be my number two purchase.

My 1st is packed and ready, awaiting my PAL for shipping.
It's a Heritage Rough Rider (.22 cal)

That may have been the case for me too, however the nice lady at the CFO certainly didn't need to know that
