Shorten PAL Approval Times

I follow the steps set out, was persistent, polite with staff @ Miramichi, and like clock work got my PAL issued and sent on day 28. My PAL instructors told me not to do a lot of the stuff described here. To all other newbies who have a similar situation: follow the steps set out here they work!

Re: Shorter PAL application times

Very informative article, newbies like me very much appreciate it.

I sent my application off last week. I'm still not on the website yet. Hope I won't be playing the "waiting game" for months.

I just have a few questions if I may. What kind of questions does the CFC generally ask applicants/references?
Also, the article mentioned target shooting as a good reason to give them for applying for a Restricted PAL. Of course I'll want to shoot my guns but is wanting simply to collect guns not as good?

Anyone able to answer JordanAs question...curious to hear what they ask during the interviews

Have you been diagnosed with depression, have you been charged with domestic assualt, why do you want a handgun, have you been in a break up from a serious relationship in the last 2 years, describe a circumstance where you might resort to violence, are you happy in your job......... Don't sweat it they're all no brainers

Thanks Zerex. Circumstance where you might resort to violence? Is self-defense an acceptable response :S Sorry if its a stupid question just wondering.

My Rpal was approved and mailed out automatically on the 28th day Due to the min waiting period. I received my pal in 34 days from the day it was mailed in.
I had my refrences call in for the interview to make sure everything went quickly. Who knows how long it would have taken if I didn't call and push them to do my application quickly

Read earlier in this thread... lots of good info about what questions will be asked, how they'll be asked, and how to answer.

And apparently no, self-defense is not an acceptable response because the conditions for using a weapon in self-defense are almost non-existant (direct threat of death of you or a loved one). Canadian law says that the police are more or less the only ones who can respond with force, not you. (I'm not agreeing with this, just reiterating).

We're all here out of an interest in target sports, and maybe hunting. Jawohl?

Thanks for the re-clarification. I thought so aswell...So just to sharpen my answer and keep it professional, i don't believe in violence ?

It goes like this:

Q: Under what circumstances would you resort to violence?

A: I wouldn't.

(We all know it is bull####, and so do they, but why even continue the conversation with them and start jabbering about "Well, if my wife and kids were being raped...", etc.)

Mailed my application off today (snail mail), we'll see how long mine takes... Xprespost was $18 for a 3day service...

28 days should put me between Apr 18-22, given it'll take 5-7 days for the envelope to get there...

During my courses last week, the instructors claim that Alberta is now THE busiest province for PAL & RPAL Canadian safety courses (combined)...

Over 30,000 last year in AB, 1700 alone thru the "office" I went to..!

* I called to ask a couple quick questions before I mailed it, spoke to a veeeery kind lady who even suggested calling back in a 2 weeks to see how things were progressing & to possibly get an extension # for my references to call so it would speed things along..!

:)

Thanks for the response ironsighter. Good to clarify anyways. Going to registered-mail my application when i touch down in Canada this friday....test march 26-27 for pal/rpal. Damn hope this process is finished by the time i get back end of May wanna shoot this summer :)

Just give them a call. I called 5 days after they received my application and on the next day it was online. They phone me and my reference on the 14th day.

13 days after they received it (including weekends) and still not online. Called them up and they couldn't find me, said to check back the end of this week or the beginning of next week.

A note to the original post.

Not only does your signature have to be original on your application, they will not accept non-ink signatures of your references (on RPAL application). I scanned my application and sent it to my brother-in-law, he signed it, scanned it and sent it back. I sent it in and was astounded that they would not accept his signature. Good thing I called in or I would have been waiting two weeks for a form letter telling me to call in.

Wow, I don't know if it's a bazaar coincidence or they actually did something, but my application literally just came online. It is now in progress. Is this the time to call in and see if I can do my interview, or does it go into another status?
