Shorten PAL Approval Times

Mine came yesterday. I was hoping would have come monday, as I went 'up north' for a few days in Muskoka, and stopped in at BassPro in Vaughn, it would have been nice to come home with some hardware.

Last weekend of August/Sept.1- CFSC, HEP, CRFSC.
Last week of Sept: received both forms back from Ont. CFO, got signatures, mailed to CFC.
Sept. 22: arrived @ CFC (per CPC signature file)
Oct. 21: shows on website as in progress.
Oct. 28: Called, did interview. both references called around 11:45am. At 17:30, it showed as issued.

I'm a happy camper!!

Seriously, you chose a reference with priorities THAT out of whack? What were you thinking? :)

I was gonna make a comment along those lines but you beat me to it :ar15:

When you guys call in, do you ever get called back? Or can I be proactive on this and just make sure everyone calls in?

Be proactive, call in from any line, doesn't have to be your cell.. Once you get interviewed, you have an extension and your case number, so just have your refs call the x, give them your ref # and let them get grilled (actually it's not bad).

General note: One of my refs got asked how I would store my firearms. The person answered "He is very meticulous about being compliant with the law and is already shopping around for a safe."

He is a good friend of mine and unfortunately some of my family members are anti-gun. The last thing I wanted were to trust an anti-gun as my reference.

I wonder if its too late to change

I may have a little problem. My phone died, thanks to my son putting it under water, and due to a disagreement between me and my provider I may not have another phone for a couple weeks. On top of that, one of my references tells me his cell number changed.

I find it very easy to call them. I havent waited more than a few seconds before talking to someone. I would just get everyone to call in. Makes things a lil easier.

There is a change of reference form - usually when your reference says something like, "I don't really know him that well..."

From the posts here, it seems to add quite a bit of time - a week or two to get it to you, and a week or two to get processed.

I did some inquiring and they said they have to send a form to me and then have them sign it, then I gotta send it to them again <<insert facepalm>>

I got in touch with the reference, he apparently lost his phone <<another facepalm>>

Sent him an email with the details, I hope he is a good friend as I thought he was.

Hey guys, first post here. Just thought I'd share my timeline...

Oct. 11: Challenged the pal and rpal tests
Oct. 12: Sent the application out east
Oct. 14: received at Miramichi
Nov. 10: received a letter saying I had an incomplete form, called in, gave them the information. Took the test. References called in.
Nov. 11: Application processed, license issued.

Feels faster than I thought it would take to complete. Excited to start target practice!

Sept 17-18 Safety courses
Mailed forms Sept 19
Oct 12- appears online- says received Sept 26
First reference called Oct 25
Second reference called in Oct 31
No change in online status
Called in today- Lady claims its gone to Alberta CFO and the have till Nov 26 to approve it for the 45 days to be up.

I don't understand why there such a hold up when lots of people on here are approved the same day the references are called. Anyone have any ideas?

Call your Alberta Chief Firearms Officer and ask when it might get to you. I thought it was 45 days from when they recieved it down east.

Thats what I understood too but the woman I spoke to made it sound like i had to wait till the 26 to even call. Do I just call the same number and ask to be put through or is there a direct number I can call?

After doing my CFSC late September, My status is finally "Your application has been processed and your licence has been issued. If you have not received your licence within 2 weeks please contact the Canada Firearms Centre Toll Free number."
