Mailed and arrived on dec 8
Phoned in on the 29 dec, Did phone interview and so did my references
Same day forwarded to cfo
Waiting for delivery ................
Great people to deal with, kind and helpful..
:):):)

After reading some of the 246 pages on this thread, I'll post my PAL to RPAL upgrade.

Nov 18 : Challenged restricted, passed.
Nov 28: Phoned 1-800 number to make sure application was filled out correctly.
Nov 29: Put in mail (that evening, snail mail)
Dec 05: Shows online, has past initial processing, now in progress.
Dec 19: Phoned in for update, was told they are looking at it, phone back in a couple days.
Dec 21: Phoned back in, all info was completed, asked to perform interview. Was suggested to have references phone in to speed up application. Both references phoned that day and completed interviews.
Dec 23: No status change on application. Will phone on Dec 27 for update.

Overall , not bad considering Christmas holidays and all. Hoping to see licence in mail early new year!

P.S.: Everyone I spoke to on the 1-800 number was very friendly and helpful!
Cheers to all of them, it helps make the process that much eaiser! (Even though I know they are employed by people applying firearms licences)
;)

Phoned the 1-800 # again, same response. Said they have been overwhelmed by applications....:D
Phone the Alberta CFO #, waited on hold for 32 mins, talked to a very friendly lady, finished up the processing (took no more then 1 min) and done.

She said licences are printed daily, so :dancingbanana: :dancingbanana:

As an update for everyone, I just checked online and my PAL was automatically approved at midnight on day 28. Looks like things are moving along smoothly right now.

Passed safety courses: Dec 4/5
Mailed Expressport: Dec 6
Received by CFC: Dec 8 (confirmed through Canadapost tracking)
Posted to website: Dec 16 (showing receipt date of Dec 8th as above) with note that they are missing information and will contact me.
Called CFC about missing information: Dec 19 (I forgot to check box that I had no former spouse .... fixed on phone ... they then told me I could not do my interview because my application was not yet scanned but to call back later in the week.
Called back and did interview: Dec 21
References called and did interviews: Dec 21
Jan 5 12:01AM "our application has been processed and your licence has been issued. If you have not received your licence within 2 weeks please contact the Canada Firearms Centre Toll Free number.: (day 28)

Hi guys, I am new to this forum but have been following this and other threads on CGN for awhile now.

I did the CRFSC and CFSC and am now in the process of applying for my RPAL.

Just for everyone's information:

Passed safety courses: Dec 4/5
Mailed Expressport: Dec 6
Received by CFC: Dec 8 (confirmed through Canadapost tracking)
Posted to website: Dec 16 (showing receipt date of Dec 8th as above) with note that they are missing information and will contact me.

Called back and did interview: Dec 21
References called and did interviews: Dec 21

Now the question:
I have got to the point where everything that can be processed is processed and from reading this thread the next step is for my status to change to "issued" however this cannot be done (I assume) since it has been only 13-14 days ....

1) Will my status stay the same and change right on the 28th day or will someone need to do something else to get the card "issued." Do I need to call back?
2) Is there anyway I can know that everything is in good order with my reference interviews, etc at this point? Will calling them do any good or will they just tell me to wait for the 28 days?

Thanks for your help!

Congratulations, that is the way to get things done.

Once you have mailed in your PAL application (either first time or renewal), you can log into the CFC (Canada Firearms Centre) website to check your application status:
http://www.rcmp-grc.gc.ca/cfp-pcaf/online_en-ligne/app_dem-eng.htm
It will not usually appear online for about two weeks after receipt by CFC.

One way to shorten this period is to send your application registered mail (with receipt required) so that you know when it is delivered to CFC in Miramichi.
Following receipt by CFC, (and before it appears online), you can phone the CFC to confirm delivery. It usually appears online the next day.

I mailed mine via express post with signature required. I checked the tracking and saw it was delivered. I phoned as above and asked them to confirm delivery. I was told 2 to 3 weeks blah blah... She then checked my last name and it wasn't in the system. She told me that it will take 2 to 3 weeks before it shows up online. I'm not sure what you asked for or how you got them to confirm delivery and then have it show up online the next day?

You cannot rush anything until it's in the system, and they're swampped. Mine took 11 days after delivery during normal workload.

Once it's in, wait 48 hours, then call and confirm everything is filled out okay. Then ask about interviews. If you do get to do your interview right then, ask for the extension number so you can have your references call in too.

[For Ontario residents: you can send in your application before you get your stamped CFSC firearms course results back from the Ontario CFO and get the 28 day waiting period started earlier than if you wait and attach the results to the application. Questions 20(a) and (b) each have a box to check if the exam results are enclosed, so you would just leave that blank. Probably also worthwhile to include a note that exam results will follow. The 28 day clock starts once the application is received by CFC. If you wait until you get your 'stamped' safety course report(s) back you have added that to your waiting period, and it is often about 6 weeks.]

I just completed the non-restricted firearms course and in the papers I was given it said that they we were NOT allowed to apply until our tests came back... can someone verify that this part of the tutorial is in fact true and that I can send the application in before I receive my test results back???

It is true. I did not do this myself but my co-worker did. He left that section blank with a sticky-note attached to the application with "CFO stamped results to follow shortly". His application was started (thus the 'clock' was started) but he could not do his interview until the papers were sent in.

I waited... I had them back 3 weeks to the day. I'm hearing of longer approval wait times right now so it might not be a bad idea to get your paperwork started asap.

I did it this way only a month ago and it worked fine. Check post #2403

I think the number of CGN users that have followed this guide has lead to a change in the CFC procedure. I have updated the original post.

That is courtesy of your CFO who apparently wants to delay the issuance of any PALs in the province. CFO tells instructors what the process is.
Don't believe it. The CFC is federal.
Your CFO does the final approval so you are stuck there especially if you want to shoot handguns.
When that part of the post was first written it was an uncertain process but it has been proven to work by dozens of people who posted here.
