Shorten PAL Approval Times

Your question is worded confusingly too :)

The answer is No. You were certified by the CFSC/CRFSC instructor, and if Ontario, those results were verified by the CFO.

You should call the 800 number to be 110% sure, but I put no on mine (new RPAL license) and had it in 28 days.

Certified, Verified. ####ing word play man, I tell ya. Thanks for your answer Noltz!

Agreed, especially in Ontario with the CFO stamping each individual test, adding 3 weeks to the process. That's the primary reason for this whole thread. However the tips given (send your application in ahead) really do cut down on the time it takes. Personally I waited for the papers to come back, and it added a month to my wait.

Test results sent to CFO 4 weeks ago to get stamped nothing back yet, and RPAL application sent to CFC via X-press mail was signed for over two weeks ago still NOT showing on line ! I am planning to a gun show in two weeks was hoping to buy a nice pistol but not counting on it anymore as RPAL will never be ready and in my hand for March 03  What a waste of time !

tell me about it, this is ridiculous. Mine was received by them feb 2nd as per Canada post and still not online either. its getting silly.

I think mine took about 2 weeks to show up online. I maled it out Jan 16, then the next thing I saw was on around Feb 1 when it showed up online. It did say received Jan 20 though, so that's when my 28 days began.

Just thought I would add my timeline in...

So, courses were taken in August(PAL)/November(RPAL)

...stupid me didn't find out that you didn't have to wait for the course results to send your app in... so everything was sent out January 20th...

app received in NB on the 23rd
app showed up online: January 27th
interview of me and one reference: February 7th
second reference (due to missed call): February 8th
Now I'm on a waiting game it seems... 28 day waiting period end is on February 20th

would like to add to this...

checked February 20th at 12:25pm

Your application has been processed and your licence has been issued. If you have not received your licence within 2 weeks please contact the Canada Firearms Centre Toll Free number. (1-800 731-4000)

Soooo happy :D much thx to calalta and CGN ;)

I would like to say i've given up on the CFC. I was saving money to buy a pistol but I am quite fed up. Think i'm just going to spend it on something else. It's been close to 3 weeks since they received my app on feb 2nd and its still not online. Calling them gets me no where. what a frustrating experience.

so now that my app is online, i called today to see about doing an interview but she said something about having to wait for my photo to be scanned?? how long before i can call in and get my interviews out of the way?

Call them near the end of the week. I had the same issue, was told to phone back in 2-3 weeks, or, if I wanted to speed up the process, call back in 2-3 days...LOL.... straight from the mouth of a CFC employee (Chris was his name) I had the EXACT same comment made about my pic being scanned.

Yeah, when the app appears online, give them a few days. They were still entering my info when I called the first time. called back a week later, and good to go.

You have to wait the 28 days anyway, so don't sweat it right away.

Both my wife and I got this ....................WOOT!

Great..........so mid next week then..........can't wait really, and have an obscenely long shopping list already.........but the good part is, my wife got her license as well and is buying a stainless CZ-75B in 9mmfor her own........so my list is pretty much already "blessed".

Yay! My license has been issued :). They received it Jan 24, it didn't appear online for about 2.5 weeks, all the interviews were done on the 14th-15th and now today it says it has been issued. So that is right on the 28 day mark and I never harassed them with phone calls. I did send it registered mail because that's a lot of info in there, but I am impressed with how fast it went through "by itself" considering some of the horror stories others have had.

this is getting frustrating.. faxed in my test results on Feb 10th and again on the 16th and my application status still hasn't been updated.. I've called pretty much every other day trying to get an answer to no avail....

Afternoon all

So i called today to complete my interview and the lady told me "its not at that stage yet" and "there is a minimum 45 day waiting period but it could take longer than that". Basically told 'we will call you'. She also said "I see that you called two days ago", as if it was a bad thing. I can only imagine this is gonna make my application take longer now.

Then i asked her "I thought there was a 28 day statutory waiting period after the date of receipt, not 45 days" and she just replied "No, theres a 45 day waiting period untill you get your license".

I can't believe the amount of inconsistent answers I get from different employees. The last time I spoke to them they said call back in a few days to do the interview.

So whats up with that?

I know that at my CFSC/CRFSC, the instructor said the place is really backed up with applications. And with the LGR dead, I'm sure there will be a surge of people applying too. Hopefully there isn't too many delays, how hard can this all be?

I got a full background check from the RCMP as well as a unique pass and photo ID for work during the Toronto G20, and that took maybe like... 4 weeks? Dunno what the deal with the CFC is, it seems like rubber stamping some papers and 3 phone calls would be very fast!
