Shorten PAL Approval Times

Finally today see that my license has been issued. Here's my full timeline:

Feb 25: Passed CFSC
Mar 1: sent by expresspost
Mar 5: received
Mar 27: showed up online
Mar 30: called to confirm the only thing missing was my test results
Apr 3: My test results were stamped by the Ontario CFO
Apr 16: Received test results in the mail, faxed them to the CFC
Apr 17: Your application has been processed and your licence has been issued.

So, if it gets printed on Friday I'll hopefully have my license in time to have some fun the following weekend! Woohoo!

and with the new stupid law in Quebec we can not buy gun else where :-(

Mailed my Application 30 days ago today..(regular post March 19) and have not seen it show up on line yet..Just wondering if anybody else has noticed this long of a wait ? Thanks

30 days is pushing it, but this is EXACTLY why it's 100% necessary to send your application registered / signature required. It's been posted, without source, that general mail is opened after the registered stuff has been entered because the registered senders know it's there.

I've read as much as 45 days, but remember your start date is the day they received it, not the day it shows up online. So you could find it online and getting a phone call very quickly after.

I was told today that a separation or divorce within 2 years all but stops a PAL app.

I am separated, but my ex happily signed the app.

Anyone see a delay under similar circumstances?

There will be a delay. They'll contact her and make sure she wasn't forced to sign it. They'll also check local PD for calls to the old or new addresses. Best be patient. When you application shows up online wait 48 hours then call.
"Hello, I see my application has been entered and is processing. I expect there'll be some questions as I've recently seperated. Is there anything I can do to facilitate the application process? Will the Officer in charge of my file be calling the local PD? If yes, would it help speed things along if I call them ahead of time?" I'm always sweet as pie with the girls at the CFC/CFO and they've been nothing but professional and courteous back.

"Thank you very much for your time. I know you guys are swamped, I'd just like to get everything lined up for you to check off."

... don't use "ducks in a row". :)

New law? Are you saying you cant buy out of province when you get your pal?

I just got my PAL/RPAL after 12 weeks from taking the course. Not too bad, and one of my references held up CFC for at least 1-2weeks by not answering his phone every time they called. They interviewed every reference and myself.

Provincial CFO approves it. CFC issues it. You can buy a gun from another province but in your province you must still register it under the registry system. Some sellers may not want to sell to Quebec because they may get asked for info the CFC is no longer entitled to ask in the rest of Canada.

Called the CFC today to check the status of my application (day 27). The nice lady on the phone checked the status, gave me the extension number and my application number to have my references call in. She then transferred me for my interview. Once I was done, I contacted my references to have them call in for the interview.

How much longer is the wait at this point?

I guess after interviews it is sent to the provincial CFO for final blessing and then it gets issued to you.

I will be calling again next week to check the status if the RCMP website is not updated to indicate an approved application. Even though they tell you that you will be contacted, I would not wait for them unless you are not in a hurry.

In my case it took 5 minutes after my last reference interviewed to issue the license. I had the interview 2.15pm, my references called 2.50pm and 3.10pm.
My licensed was issued 3.15pm. Good luck!

Same here, literally the same day my last reference did the interview the status changed to 'issued'.

It says to call if I don't receive the license in 2 weeks. Does it typically take 2 weeks or is that worst case scenario?

Approved baby!w:h:
Feb 16 my application was received, today it was approved. 62 days.

The BC CFO wanted a fax of my DL, he said they had someone who, on paper, looked a lot like me and they wanted to make sure it wasn't.

He talked to my wife this afternoon and he told her it was approved. 5 min. later it showed approved online.:dancingbanana:

anyone know if they're taking their time on data entry for applications???
they received my RPAL app on Mar 29th and its still not up.. just talked to a "Brenda" who was noticeably annoyed with my phone call
