Shorten PAL Approval Times

I was looking to get info on how to submit my test results...just spoke with someone at CFC who said they are taking 4 to 5 weeks right now just to get you in the system. She told me to give them 4 weeks from the time I sent mine in before calling and they should have an app#(I believe it was an app#) for me to quote when FAXing in my results.

She did ask if my application was for employment purposes so maybe those folks go to the front of the line?

Well, here is my situation so far....

Mailed application on May 15th via registered mail.... 2 weeks later still not delivered, called Canada Post and they started an investigation. They asked for my phone # and told me someone would call me within 24 hours to let me know what was happening. No contact from them, so I called 2 days later and was told that someone was assigned to the case and would call me within 5 days. Well, surprise surprise, nobody called. After 7 days I call them and they say that there is nobody specifically assigned to the investigation and that I should wait until June 20th because they will leave it open until then. I ask why nobody has called me and the guy says "we never call people, did you give them your email address?". Well, here is about the point where I lose my patience with Canada Post. I proceed to tell the guy that no, I didn't give my email address because I was never asked for it and they specifically asked for my cell number because I was told "someone will be calling you, so do you have a number we can reach you during the day?" He tells me again that I should wait until the 20th and call back after that. I told him I have a couple of problems with this... first, that this is time sensitive and I've already wasted over 3 weeks, and second, how do you lose a registered letter? It gets scanned any time it moves. I made it clear that I was quite upset that they've lost an envelope with so much personal information enclosed. I ended by saying I was going to just send everything all over again, but this time send it expresspost. I also said I'll be submitting the bills for shipping and photo re-do's to them. So then I re-do my application, get reference signatures again, get new photo's and go back to the post office once again. I ask the woman to send this expresspost because my registered mail got lost... her reply?... "don't worry, expresspost is pretty much guaranteed to get there"... wow

Please tell us you made a copy / scan of both your application form and the test results paperwork!!!

In the meantime assuming you did.. write a short letter to the CFC explaining what has happened and FAX it and the copies to them so they can have such noted within your file.

just spoke with someone at CFC who said they are taking 4 to 5 weeks right now just to get you in the system.

just called in today and they told me that it is 5-6 weeks for them to open the mail and add it into the system. my application was delivered on the 16th of may.

am i the only person who wouldnt mind paying and extra $20 every 5 years if they can actually have adequate staffing? i would really love to be able to buy my gun before the end of the summer.

ask them to put that in writing... fax it to u.. email etc... but get it in writing so it can be of real world use.

oh and u do know that the fact it is a "license" with limited time effectiveness is intentional vs the old FAC system which did not expire

I didn't make copies of the original, but I have copies of the 2nd attempt. Thanks for the advice on faxing them the letter. I was going to call them to explain the situation once they received my 2nd application.

tsk tsk... u didn't read all of the prior advice then.

However don't wait.. Call them asap.. etc.. ask for a supervisor at least and fill them in thoroughly and then fax them what you do have.

Welp, coming up on 60 days here. Was hoping to be one of the lucky ones who fell into the 30 day time frame but that certainly isn't the case. I made my first phone call today to inquire if my app was in good order and that no missing info was required. App is in good standing and just sitting with the BC CFO now for final approval. The lady I spoke with was very polite and helpful. She answered all of my questions and was very pleasant. I was basically told what everyone else from BC has been told... there is a backlog of apps which has slowed the approval process to a crawl. Even though I was informed to call back at a later date if I so choose I probably won't. Not much I can do now as it's just sitting there waiting for approval from the BC CFO. Hopefully it gets looked at sooner rather then later.

Who says they're not staffed? Keep a backlog of 5-6 weeks work = instant job security. If you're too efficient the budget/staff gets cut.

A Crown Corporation delivering to a Government office during Summer months? We're lucky the apps make it all. LOL

Sorry about the screwover Kglock, that sucks.

Can anyone answer this - I know it probably varies but I am in the final stages of my application process. I did my interview and my references did theirs on Wednesday. Just called to see what if any more information they needed, she said it has been sent to the CFO for approval. Roughly how long did it take you guys to get that approval? I have seen guys say that they did the interviews and that day the online site said approved and will be mailed.
Unfortunately I am in Ontario so I'm sure the ont cfo isn't in any rush to do this stage?

Mailed out May 2nd, 2013 via Canada Post Express, Signature required
Received by RCMP May 3rd, 2013
Appears online June 5th, 2013
Called in June 6th, 2013 to verify information
Visa charged June 7th, 2013
Licence Issued June 7th, 2013.

Took less than 45 days, and only called them once. Im satisfied with the speed of my application.

Just as my last reference completed his interview the status changed to completed.... So it depends on case to case. Sometimes the CFO approves the application before the interview and sometimes after the interviews are done.

Just called a minute ago and the lady said that the wait for opening mail is 5-6 weeks due to a backlog caused by "fee waivers". I'm guessing that means they waived the fees for something firearms related and that caused a flood of mail.

The fee waiver for the POL --> PAL upgrade ended on May 15th. Apparently that caused a rush of folks sending in applications before the deadline. It took 5 weeks for my app to show up online (received April 23, online May 28, license issued around May 31/June 1).

Edit - postmarked June 4, arrived today, June 7. :dancingbanana:

So as of Today my paperwork has started for my RPAL. Will be mailed to CFO on Monday a few weeks to get my test results back then off to NB

Do I need to fill out the same form as I did for my PAL or is it a different one?

Same form only diff info

and don't wait til your "results" page comes back if you are in ONT... mail it asap registered.. and write on the form that rpal test result sheet will be faxed as soon as it arrives from the CFO

took about 3 week for me to get my stamped paperwork from the ontario CFO when i did it earlier this year. will probably be about 4 weeks right now since there will probably be a bit of a back log.

Just checked online and it's says in progress....Is now the time to call and see if they will do my interview on the spot? or will they get pissy for pestering them? Oh and they have already charged my visa....
