Shortmag myths

Yes, you are confused. Winchester never introduced a WSM in 25 caliber as you originally suggested. It did make a 25 super short magnum, and it was a bad idea.

Only metric caliber cartridges that really caught on in North America are the 7mm's, which is why you will see 270 WSM, 300WSM and .325WSM ammo on the shelf at Canadian Tire, but you will never see 9.3x62.

So the 6.5x55 never caught on in North America? Give your head a shake..

It's reasonably popular, but not nearly as much as the .270, 7mm or 30 caliber cartridges. All you have to do is look at rifle maker lineups. Multiple offerings in the 270/7mm/30 caliber cartridges while few (if any) options are available in the 6.5x55.

And why it is easier to find ammo and brass for the short mags than the 6.5x55:)

That's to bad. I don't usually shop at Crapy Tire. I reload. I have a better chance of finding Brass for a 7x57 on the ee than for a wssm or what ever they call it.

I make my own ammo as well, but you originally started in the discussion claiming:

Save your Brass the wsm's are not doing well

And having WSM ammo on the shelf at CT is certainly indicative of the opposite of what you said.

I recall a decade ago when the WSM cartridges were introduced, and people were saying "stock up on brass, these won't be here for long"

They were wrong then and you are wrong now.

How many guns do you own chambered in a wsm cartridge?

Interesting in this thread someone is looking or a 6,5x55

If you wanted a 300WSM, you could just walk into or call any gun store and you would have several to choose from.;)

Why would you even consider one? There are so many tried and true cartridges out there. 6.5x55, 7x57, 9.3x62 (I love metric). Did you fall into the Marketing trap that said WSM's were better? Your game can't tell the difference.

I was wondering upon what information you based your stated opinion regarding the 'imminent' demise of the WSMs. I've heard no reply in this regard. Is your opinion based on a 'gut' feeling or is it based on facts?

A gut feeling.

Based on facts? no way.:p

The 300WSM is the most successful 30 caliber cartridge introduced since the 300WM in the 1960's.

The 270 WSM is the only successful .270 since the .270 Winchester (270 Weatherby never really caught on and only Weatherby chambers rifles for it)

The 325WSM is the only 8mm cartridge that is in current production rifles.

The 7WSM isn't as popular, but it has certainly caught on with lots of long range shooters, and although likely will never be as popular, it probably isn't going to disappear.
:)

Why would I shop at Crappy Tire? Do you? You should try reloading it's fun.
