Shorty shotguns...who else loves them?

Is using chokes in a shorty even rereasonable?
Hey Diagger, in my 14" barreled Canuck pump, there are Mobil chokes. I haven't patterned it with the chokes it came with, but did buy an extra full turkey choke for it and patterned that. It's a Jelly Head or Truglo, nothing special. Its patterns were indistinguishable from the same ammo same occasion similar turkey choke in my 28" Beretta 391 Extrema. So that's something!

Haha so they are more useful then I was lead to believe with the right chokes. I still really like the look of the 512 12.5. Maybe I can thread my own choke or just buy two shotguns eventually.

Is using chokes in a shorty even reasonable? And if it is maybe I should look at the 20in barrel model. I think 9in on SC-215 too short.
Chokes in a shorty is no different than chokes in a full length barrel, they’re always a useful thing to have. All my short barrel with one exception have screw in chokes, the one without will be threaded at some point.

I like them 18” to 26”. I find them every bit as accurate with 26” as they are with 28” but easier to fit in a smaller case.

The shortest I’ve had was 14” and the noise was so bad even with ear plugs that I sold it ( mean I was wearing the earplugs, the shotgun was not).

I’m a fan of stuff that’s less cumbersome in the dense areas for bear hunting. Long barrels easily end up feeling like carrying a flagpole and they haven’t been any better at anything for me, including when I used to goose hunt.

870 Wingmaster is my bush carry gun. Small and light enough I can carry it all day and not really notice.
Surefire DSF-870 was expensive(ish) and a bit heavy but worth it for the piece of mind when it comes to bumps in the night.
Low recoil rounds only though but the hogue tamer pistol grip helps with that. Plus I like the top mount sling paired with the side mount on the front to make it carry ready. Sling also adds a nice stability point to keep it away from the face. It does take some practice to push it away vs pulling it into the shoulder. Gotta watch the cheek mount or black eye incoming.
Smooth bore rifled sights b/c you only hit what you aim at. Although that flashlight does the night time aiming for me.
At 30" overall length is a bit long for a shorty, but there's no arguing about it's NR status when the boys in blue meet me at the takeout.
