Anyone out there have any words of advise on the Sig 550. thinking about purchasing one but personally have not talked to anyone that actully has owned one ,some input from the forum , good or bad would be greatly appreciated. :sniper:

Sig 55X rifles are prohibited.

If you're referring to the sig black, blue specials, classic green etc. Just search for "swiss arms".

They're great rifles. Dozens of threads on them.

My friend has a Black Special with a Leupold MRT on top.

Its an awesome rifle, stuipid accurate and VERY easy on your shoulder! Good for varminting and such too.

Only thing i can say i dislike, is that it dents up the brass like hell from the ejection, although i've heard that some velcro behind the ejection port clears that up pretty well.

All in all, i'd say if you want one of the Sig sporters and have the cash, then go for it! They will outshoot most semi auto's right out of the box, and will serve you well for a VERY long time!

just to hi-jack a little and sorry. would the sg550 at almost twice the cost of a rra or dpms shoot that much better?

If you missed it above, the 550 is prohibited.

The Swiss Arms rifles are excellent quality, but if you are cost averse, the rifles you mention are very nice as well.

Seems Ellwood Eps hasn't updated their listings; they're showing non-restricted 550 Black Specials and Classic Greens, and a restricted 552 CQB Classic Green under Swiss Arms.

Out of the box im saying yes.

The DI system has a little more potential for accuracy (no moving parts in the gas system) but you have to pay a LOT of money to get the same performance out of a RRA or DPMS rifle.

plus the Sig CG or BS are non restricted, whatever thats worth to you :)

per usual thanks for the excellent direction. the sig550 is not prohibited fyi. i have to take a look at one in my local shop williamsarm but for 3 large it better be a beaut to hold and shoot. i'm still on the fence on .223 i would rather go to .308 but i count nothing out until the fat lady sings.

They were all sold out. They did not have them on their website.

If they do have them listed again....that would mean that they do have them in stock. They also list the new lower price.
I believe they update every Monday.

for just under 3K it is more than a "beaut" and it isn't a 550 they have it is a PE-90 or whatever swiss arms is call it now...

as other better informed posters have mentioned the 55x series are prohibited in Canada....

So that you are aware, the Canadian Swiss Arms Black Special rifles combine a previous model upper with a legal lower, with these rifles the upper is the registered component, so no it isn't a 550, or a variant of it. For political reasons (those who have them want to keep them) please don't forget that.

yes, Epps is dead wrong this time. THey should change it to the correct name.

Definatly, a lot of people could start getting into trouble calling them the "Sig 550".

they are definatly not, they're based off of the Sig 540 which is the precursor to the Sig 550.

I know everybody knows what they're talking about when they say "550" but its like calling an AR15, an M16 ;)

Dontcha' just love it when newbies try and tell guys who actually own the firearms they're lusting after/talking about "how it is?"

For the record, the Swiss Arms Classic Green, Black Special, Blue Star, Red Devil & Heavy Metal rifles are all NON-RESTRICTED and are NOT SIG 550s!!! (How do I know? 'cause I've got a couple of them sitting in my safe right now).:ninja:

The Swiss Arms Classic Green "CQB" is NOT a SIG 552! However, due to barrel length, it is legally classified as a RESTRICTED firearm. If it were an actual SIG 552 it would be prohibited. (How do I know? 'cause I've got one sitting in my safe right now!):ninja:
